A man was charged after a homeowner in South-West Oxford saw an individual inside their home.

The Oxford County OPP reported being called to a break and enter around noon on Sunday at a home on Ebenezer Road in South-West Oxford.

According to police, the owner of the property noticed an “insecure door” and, upon coming closer, saw a person inside the home. The intruder realized the owner was present and fled into a field.

Oxford County OPP officers, the emergency response team and the canine team helped find the suspect. A 48-year-old man was charged with break and enter and will appear in Woodstock court at a later date.

Citizen reports wandering child

A wandering child in Norwich was returned home after a concerned bystander saw the pre-schooler around town early in the morning.

The Oxford County OPP said they received a call from a concerned citizen around 3 a.m. Wednesday for a report of a young child, wearing pyjamas, wandering alone on Stover Street in Norwich.

Officers determined the child was healthy and with no injuries, and quickly determined where the four-year-old lived. The child was reunited with their caregiver.

Police said they discovered the child left the home through a ground-floor screen window.

“The Oxford County OPP would like to thank the individual who contacted the police immediately. This is an exemplary illustration of community values. Thank you for caring and thank you for acting,” said detachment commander Insp. Anthony Hymers.

Police offer the following tips to keep kids safe around windows:

  •  Ensure all windows are closed and secure when not in use;
  •  Keep areas in front of windows free and clear of objects;
  •  Use a monitoring device to alert when movement is detected;
  •  Install window guards or locks; and
  •  Install double-hung windows that allow for the same ventilation at the top.

Two arrested after injured person knocks at Ingersoll home

Two men were arrested and charged with assault after police were called when an injured person showed up on the doorstep of a nearby home.

The Oxford County OPP said they received the report around 11 p.m . on Monday, when a property owner on Chisholm Drive heard a knock at their door and opened it to find an unknown person who seemed injured.

Police and paramedics arrived at the scene, and the injured person was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Two people were later arrested. A 31-year-old man was charged with assault with a weapon and failure to comply with a probation order; a 28-year-old was charged with assault with a weapon. Both will appear in Woodstock court at a later date.

Truck stolen when thief locates keys

Police are investigating the theft of a pickup truck stolen after a thief located keys on the property.

According to Oxford County OPP, a black 2015 GMC Sierra pickup truck was stolen from an address on Culloden Line in South-West Oxford some time between 7 p.m. Monday and 7 a.m. Tuesday, when unknown suspects entered an unlocked building on the property and took the keys to the vehicle.
