“Climate change is an issue that is being experienced around the world. Action is critical to protect our communities, individual health, and environment, while laying the foundation for a more prosperous and sustainable future,” said a news release by Matt Terry, director of corporate communications. “In response to this, Norfolk County has developed the Climate Change Adaptation Plan.”

The plan is looking to identify the impacts of climate change currently being experienced, or that could be an issue in the future, and what changes could help avoid the negative impacts of climate change.

Establishing a foundation of understanding and commitment from stakeholders and the community to support change and action is another goal of the plan.

A strategy will be implemented to guide staff and decision makers in the future to make climate-related adaptions, actions, and measures, said the release.

“The Norfolk County Climate Change Adaptation Plan has been developed with the goal of creating a climate-resilient, community-focused strategy which addresses the long-term needs and priorities of Norfolk County residents, businesses, agencies and visitors,” said Michael Simoes, Norfolk County Climate Change Adaptation Committee chair. “The proposed plan, when implemented, will provide Norfolk County and its partners with the support and tools needed to improve Norfolk County’s long-term sustainability.”

A draft of the Norfolk County Climate Change Adaptation Plan is now available for review and the Norfolk County Climate Change Committee is looking for feedback from the people who live and work within the municipality.
