The first awards were handed out to employees for their milestone years of service, ranging from five to 40.

“Congratulations to all of our Years of Service Award recipients,” said hospital CEO Kelly Isfan. “Your dedication contributes greatly to providing an incredible experience for our patients and residents.”

A total of 133 employees were given pins recognizing their time spent at the hospital, adding up to 1,785 years of service. Twenty-five of the employees were recognized for between 25 to 40 years of employment.

Anna Willson, an employee at the hospital for 20 years, accepted the Dr. George Marshall Memorial Award.

This peer nominated award is named after Dr. Marshall who practised at NGH and acted as employee heath physician. The award is to recognize a person or group that shows passion and commitment to improve care, lead by example, and inspire others.

“She is an asset to NGH. A great team player and fellow staff always look forward to working with her. Patients and visitors respond well to her pleasant attitude,” wrote Willson’s nominator. “She is always soothing for patients when they are sick or in need of a kind word. She has gone out of her way many times to comfort family members that come in to visit their loved ones.”

A first-ever Dr. Marshall group award was presented to Holmes House. The house offers withdrawal management services and support in a residential setting 24 hours a day, year round.

“The bottom line is that Holmes House staff goes above and beyond for clients on a daily basis including using their personal time off on occasion,” said Isfan.

The Norfolk Hospital Nursing Home Employee of the Year Award was presented to Donna Butcher.

The peer nominated award is given to someone that cares for the residents and goes above and beyond in their role.

“This year’s recipient is a loyal, dedicated PSW with over 20 years at NHNH. She is the person you would want taking care of you and your loved ones,” said NHNH Director Vicky Florio. “She lives our mission every day: Enriching lives with dignity, care and passion. Her warm smile lights up the room. She is a true team player; helping out, pitching in whenever needed. She is looked to for guidance and leadership among her peers and carries out her tasks in a quiet, confident manner.”

The Hazel Race Career Advancement Fund was also distributed to 18 applicants.

The fund, created by the late John Race and named in memory of his wife, is given to staff that are interested in taking additional courses to advance in their careers.

A total of $7,980.81 was distributed this year, adding up to a total of $32,239.14 since the fund was created in 2012.
