No new cases for first time in 19 days

For the first time in 19 days, Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit added no cases of COVID-19 to its record on Sunday.

A total of 196 remains as the tally of lab-confirmed virus cases in the two counties.

While the area has had 30 deaths, there have been no deaths recorded from virus since April 26.

The health unit also reported that 1,626 tests have been returned as negative for the virus and 50 people are recovered.

Anson Place retirement home and long-term care facility in Hagersville accounts for 27 of the 30 deaths in the area.

The health unit statistics show 37 per cent of the area cases have been in those over 80 years old. In nearby Brant County, only six per cent of cases have been identified in those over 80.

Haldimand-Norfolk cases are also predominantly female, with 71 per cent of the cases. In Ontario, 57.5 per cent of cases are female.

On Sunday, the province reported a total of 17,553 cases, up by 434 and deaths due to the virus that increased by 40 to 1,216.

Testing in the province has increased and hit more than 16,000 tests for the third day in a row.
