Firefighters from three city stations were called out to the house located a few doors east of Mitton Street.

“Upon arrival, firefighters discovered smoke throughout the building and fire in the basement,” the fire service said in a news release. “Firefighters quickly brought the fire under control and minimized damage to the upper floors.”

Occupants were all out of the house, the fire service said.

Damage to the house and its contents was estimated at $160,000, fire officials said.

“The origin of the blaze is determined to be a mattress found against the wall in the basement, with the exact ignition source still under investigation,” the news release said.
