“We are so proud of the almost 200 swimmers who dove in,” race organizer Josh Reid said in a news release.

He said the championships serve to put Norfolk County and Lake Erie in the spotlight in the open water swimming world.

“Happily, we were able to deliver a top-notch product.”

Reid noted that the lake water was cold, with temperatures reported to be between 7 degrees Celsius and 15 degrees along the course, resulting a few cases of hypothermia. Most swimmers opted to wear wetsuits.

The event, which has raised $75,000 for Camp Trillium in the past five years, pulled in $23,179.64 on July 21.

Reid said donations would continue to be accepted until July 31 on the North Shore Challenge website. Offline donations will be accepted until Aug. 31.
