Oxford County led construction and road closure information is now being shared through Waze and Google Maps.
To help residents and visitors to Oxford County navigate roads, Oxford will now be sharing county-led construction project and road closure information with Municipal 511 and the two-way data sharing app Waze, as part of its ‘Waze for Cities’ program.
Municipal 511 will also help support community safety by providing Oxford County emergency responders (fire, paramedic and police) respond to calls more efficiently with up-to-date information on construction, closures and detours.
“Seconds can be critical for emergency responders,” said Ben Addley, director and chief, Paramedic Services, Oxford County. “Prior to the implementation of Municipal 511 for road closures and construction, slower manual processes meant emergency crews could be unaware of construction or closures on their route. Now using Municipal 511, County closures will go directly into computers in each paramedic vehicle.”
Oxford County municipalities have been provided access to the Municipal 511 system and will adopt the system over the coming months.
“The two-way integration with Waze, and other data feeds into Municipal 511 provides the County a true picture of what is happening in our communities every day,” said Dave Colvin, emergency coordinator, Oxford County in a media release. “This is especially critical during emergencies like snowstorms, ice storms, tornadoes and severe thunderstorms. Leveraging the Municipal 511 platform is a great opportunity for the municipalities of Oxford County to work together to improve efficiency, provide better service to our communities, and harness technology in a very cost effective fashion.”
