A $100,000 fundraising campaign has been launched to support the Lighthouse Festival Theatre’s planned return in 2021.
The Light Up the Stage campaign started June 22 and will run until Sept. 30, with all donations received over that period matched dollar for dollar up to $100,000 by the McKeil Family Foundation.
“We are proud of our role in the cultural life of Norfolk County and we are moved that the McKeil Family Foundation recognizes this and has chosen to support us in such a significant and impactful way,” Derek Ritschel, artistic director at the Lighthouse, said in a news release.
The foundation’s mandate is to support communities where the family works and lives. Its business operations, including a marine base and commercial marine activities, have been operating in Norfolk for over 20 years.
“The McKeil Family is proud to support Lighthouse Festival Theatre through these challenging times,” said Blair McKeil, president and CEO of Breakwater Investments Inc. “The theatre provides both a strong financial benefit to the community and enhances the cultural landscape for its residents and visitors,”
Lighthouse welcomes over 60,000 patrons each year, attracting 24,000 tourists to the region each summer, said the news release.
The theatre’s board decided in late April to cancel the 2020 season because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Donations to the campaign can be made online on the Lighthouse website (lighthousetheatre.com) or by contacting Caitlin O’Neill at 519-583-1031, ext. 224, or firstname.lastname@example.org.
