A Toronto man arrested in Delhi this week faces additional charges after a special constable was assaulted and injured at the Simcoe detachment of the Norfolk OPP.
Police were alerted to suspicious activity on Queen Street around 11:30 p.m. Sunday. A resident reported that a prowler in the neighbourhood was trespassing onto private property.
“Officers arrived on scene and stopped to investigate the person, who then fled on foot from the area,” Acting Sgt. Ed Sanchuk of the Norfolk OPP said in a news release. “Officers subsequently located the individual and took them into custody without incident.”
While at the OPP detachment, the accused allegedly assaulted a special constable, Sanchuk said.
A 20-year-old North York man has been charged with assaulting a peace officer causing bodily harm, escaping lawful custody, obstructing a police officer, two counts of trespassing at night, and failure to comply with a probation order.
The accused is being held in custody. He will answer to the charges at a later date in the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe.
