After announcing her retirement in January, Brenda Blancher was expected to retire at the end of July.

But now she will stay on the job until a new director is available to start or Dec. 31, whichever comes first.

The board said the mutual agreement will ensure “consistent leadership” through the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I’m delighted that Brenda has agreed to stay on at this unprecedented time,” said Greg Anderson, chair of the Grand Erie board.

“Our role as trustees is to do what we can to ensure the success of the system. We need Brenda’s exceptional leadership and guidance right now. And it’s a testament to her character, values and commitment to our students and staff that she has agreed to stay.”

Blancher has been Grand Erie’s director since August 2015.

The board said its search for a new director will be put on hold until summer.
