Annandale National Historic Site hosts its annual ‘I Spy’ challenge, throughout the museum from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. with prizes to be won. Two versions are offered, both free to enter – one for children, one for adults – as well as some vintage games.

Guided tours are available at Annandale House, 30 Tillson Ave., on the 18th.

Also on Family Day, a community-organized day full of fun activities happens at the Tillsonburg Community Centre, 45 Hardy Street. Visit their website (www.tillsonburgfamilyday.ca) and Facebook page to watch for details on this year’s event.

The first thing to know, said Tillsonburg Family Day committee chair Brent Shepherd, is that it’s all free, except for the low-cost food and refreshments.

Food included a Pancake Breakfast from 8-10 a.m. at the Tillsonburg Senior Centre at $2/person that included pancakes, sausage, orange drink and coffee – generously donated by McDonald’s and cooked on-site.

The Gino’s Pizza Lunch, also at the Senior Centre, is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Enjoy Gino’s pizza at $12, cheese or pepperoni (8 slices), or $2 per slice. Lunch beverages are 50 cents each.
There are a couple small changes still to be made on the website, said Shepherd, as they update for the 2019 event.

“Food prices don’t change,” he noted.

Some of the entertainment has been changed, but it will be available in the morning and afternoon at set scheduled times.

Taking advantage of the recreational facilities at the Community Centre, there is public swimming in the Kinsmen Pool, and skating on the ice rinks.

“New this year, we are adding a Swim to Survive component to the swimming this year, which people can sign up for it.”

Typically there are three 90-minute swimming sessions, with lifeguards on duty, at 8:30 a.m., 11:30 and 3 p.m. with recommended registration. This year the Swim to Survive will be added between the first and second swim times (10:15-11).

“That will have limited participation,” said Shepherd. “You can register for it through the same form that we use for the swimming. We just have to add it. And there will be information linked on our website to show what Swim to Survive is.”

The highlight of the day, in past years, has been the Carnival in the Lions Auditorium. It will include bouncy/inflatables (full size and toddler size), games / contests, and more! And free popcorn and cotton candy, while supplies last.

Free popcorn and free cotton candy were hard to resist at the 2015 Family Day Carnival in the Tillsonburg Community Centre Lions Auditorium. The tradition continues at the 2019 Family Day on Feb. 18.

There is a Toddler Zone in the Marwood Lounge.

Further details on activities are coming, said Shepherd, and the website and social media will be updated asap when confirmed.

“Swimming, we open that up for registration closer to the date. They fill up quick.”

Last year’s event drew more than 2,000 people to the Tillsonburg Community Centre.

“It’ll be great,” Shepherd summed up.
