The graduating class of 2019-2020 couldn’t attend a physical celebration, but the school made sure they were still celebrated with a banner covered in their grad photos.
On Thursday, June 25, which would have been their official graduation date, principal Kristina Rivard Gobbo made sure they were emailed a special commemoration slideshow. The graduating students were also treated to graduating gifts and congratulatory phone calls from the school staff.
On the EHS Facebook page Rivard Gobbo and vice-principal Yves Poirior posted a special congratulatory note to all the graduating Spartans. They let the students know they were proud of their accomplishments. It was acknowledged that the students faced challenges, with the coronavirus necessitating online learning, but they managed to persevere and remain focused. Now they are about to set foot on another journey of discovery.
There were many sweet messages posted from the staff at EHS offering best wishes to the students as they move on to other adventures. There were even a few messages posted from the students about their future plans, whether it be further education, returning to EHS or entering the work force.
Valedictorian Leanne McGregor-Cywink, also posted a special message on Facebook for her fellow graduates. In it she offered words of encouragement, letting them know that they can achieve any goal they set for themselves and not to let anyone persuade them otherwise. She is heading to the University of Ottawa to pursue a biomedical mechanical engineering degree.
An official in-person graduation is being planned for the fall.
