Driver clocked going more than 170 km/h in an 80 km/h zone

A 22-year-old Brant County man faces charges after being clocked going 170 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone.

The man was spotted by a Brant OPP officer at about 1:01 a.m. Wednesday in the area of Brant and Governors roads. He appeared to be travelling at a high rate of speed, Brant OPP said.

Police say the driver drove by radar which recorded a speed of more than 170 km/h.

The driver has been charged with race a motor vehicle – excessive speed, speeding more than 50 km/h over the speed limit and failing to surrender his insurance car. He faces a minimum fine of $2,000 if convicted and an automatic drivers’ license suspension and his vehicle will be impounded for seven days.

“Road safety is everyone’s responsibility. This responsibility includes both operating your vehicle safely and bringing your vehicle to a safe stop,” Insp. Lisa Anderson, Brant County OPP Detachment Commander, said. “This includes a 30 metre reaction time; that means the vehicle would travel one third of a football field before the driver would even be able to apply the brakes.”-
