Lorraine Skarratt and Gregory Wise are starting their second business venture together after purchasing the old Gram’s Café building at 33 Main St N.

The two have been working together since opening The Gibbled Goose on Feb. 9, 2018, nearby at 22-26 Main St S.

The two decided to open an events space based on the success of their restaurant.

“We are very pleased with the way Waterford and Norfolk have been supporting us,” said Skaratt. “Our business is doing great here.”

The two have been asked to hold private events in their restaurant so they decided having a separate space to host birthdays, anniversaries, weddings and other parties would make sense, said Skarratt.

The new venture will be called Destination 1207. The name means the space will be available 12 months of the year, seven days a week. But it also has a more personal meaning, with Skarratt’s birthday being on the 12th and Wise’s on the seventh.

Plans for the space also include public events, such as comedy nights.

Skarratt said she recalls visiting the building over the last Mother’s Day weekend.

“We fell in love with the building and saw its potential,” she said. “As soon as we saw the space, we could visualize ourselves in there.”

Wise said a couple of walls were knocked down to create one long room from three separate ones.

“Now we’re just sprucing it up to what we want it to be by way of décor, colours and that kind of stuff.”

The mother and son said their focus on “great food, great drinks, and great customer service” will be continued at Destination 1207.

Their goal is to have Destination 1207 open for Pumpkinfest, which is Oct. 18-20.
