“It’s an honour to be recognized for this award. Growing up on a farm in Norfolk County, I always wanted to support the agriculture community in the same way it supported my family for four generations,” said Kyle VanHeugten, owner of VanHeugten Contractors Inc. “Although this business isn’t farming itself, I still feel connected to its roots.

“Being recognized for something that I love to do is a bonus.”

VanHeugten began the business in 2012, shortly after graduating from a construction management program at Fanshawe College in London.

Over the years, the company has made a name for itself in the community, in part by adapting to the changes in the industry.

“Throughout the years, buildings have become increasingly larger, customers need infrastructure that can support their large-scale companies. Engineering has made it possible to build these buildings,” says VanHeugten.

VanHeugten  is supported by his wife Victoria, who works as the business manager for the company. The couple has two children, Alyvia, 3, and Auston, 1.

VanHeugten says that he’s proud of the impact that the business has on the community.

“In school, trades are not focused on enough, so I hope this company shows the younger generation that you can feel accomplished and successful in this type of work. “

As for what the future holds for the company, VanHeugten says they will continue to expand and innovate.
