Gale Connor is the founding member and leader of a group of talented women who love to take fabric, colour, pattern and create works of art.

“We have quilters that are just learning the art of quilting and quilters that have been creating for over 40 years,” said Connor. “It is a pleasure to work and play with these creative ladies. Some take quilts to even higher levels with embellishments – beads, ribbon, hand embroidery. We have a member that has taken technology and used it to digitize embroidery work on fabric and integrated this into fabulous quilts or quilted pieces. We have members that quilt but also spin their own wool for knitting, members that knit sweaters or socks, members that crochet hats, gloves, afghans. Everything we do can feed our creative souls.”

Many of the group also belong to Victoria’s Quilts.

“We meet once a month and create quilts that are subsequently given to people battling cancer,” Connor noted. “Each member picks fabric from the much appreciated donated fabric. We have quite a ‘stash’ and it is amazing how many quilt tops get made in a month.”

There is a display with more information on this group and how to request a quilt. A Victoria’s Quilt will be on show and for sale. Proceeds from the sale will then be donated to the local group for purchase of batting and backings.

The Station House Quilters and Fibre Artists Group has been around for over five years and has a membership of about 25 people. They meet the first and third Thursday of each month, September through June at the Station Arts Centre.

“Anyone interested in checking us out, seeing how the group works, etc., is more than welcome to drop by on a meeting night,’ said Connor.
