A 68-year-old Aylmer woman is the fifth person to have died of COVID-19 in the Southwestern public health region.

A 68-year-old Aylmer woman is the fifth person to have died of COVID-19 in the Southwestern public health region.

Health officials reported Friday the Aylmer woman was admitted to the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, where she later died. She was confirmed as COVID-19 positive after her death.

“Southwestern public health is investigating potential spread within her close contacts and will implement contact tracing and case management as required,” said Megan Cornwell, a public health spokesperson, via email.

There have been 84 total cases of COVID-19 in the region, of which two – one each in Dutton-Dunwich and Malahide– are ongoing. To date, 8,796 people have been tested.
