Chatham man faces multiple charges after fleeing from police

A man damaged a fence forcing his way into the backyard of a Chatham residence where his ex-girlfriend was staying early Wednesday morning, Chatham-Kent police said.

A man damaged a fence forcing his way into the backyard of a Chatham residence where his ex-girlfriend was staying early Wednesday morning, Chatham-Kent police said.

He then yelled at the woman and threatened to enter the residence even though he was bound by conditions to not communicate with her.

He fled in his vehicle as the woman called 911.

Police officers saw the vehicle a short distance away and tried to stop the man. He continued driving to his residence and was taken into custody once he pulled into the driveway.

The 25-year-old Chatham man was charged with mischief with a value less than $5,000, failing to comply with his release conditions, breach of probation and flight from police.

He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Mischief charges

A 45-year-old Chatham man was charged with four counts of mischief with a value less than $5,000 Tuesday night in relation to an ongoing dispute with his neighbour in Chatham.

Police alleged he damaged his neighbour’s property on multiple occasions.

He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Electronics stolen

Two Toughbook laptops were stolen from the Via Rail station office in Chatham between 3 p.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. Tuesday.

Wire stolen

Approximately 20 feet of ground wire was stolen from the Hydro One electrical substation on Spence Line some time from Jan. 21 to Jan. 26.

Warrants executed

A 49-year-old Chatham man wanted for domestic-related offences was arrested and charged Tuesday. He was released with a Feb. 23 court date.

A 42-year-old Chatham man wanted for break and enter as well as multiple counts of assault was located Tuesday by police. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
