You’ll find out Sunday, Sept. 2 from 5-6:30 p.m. at the first Bayfest Has Talent Show in Port Rowan, where contestants will be vying for cash and prizes.

The talent show is just one of many new events at Bayfest this year, which rebranded in 2001 after many years as the Tomato Festival.

Also new on the schedule, which begins Friday (tonight) with Fish and Chips at the Legion, is a Quilt Show and Antique Doll Show, 6-9 at the Port Rowan Community Church, 1030 Bay Street.

Friday is also the Family Movie Night with a downtown screening on Bay Street. Make sure you bring your lawnchairs – this year’s film was decided by votes on Facebook.

Saturday schedule, which begins with the Neal Memorial United Church Breakfast at 8 a.m., includes a number of games/activities for children. Proud parents will want to enter their babies in the Long Point Lioness sponsored Baby Contest, 9 a.m. at the Community Centre tennis courts. Also at 9 is the Dog Show on Bay Street, sponsored by Nestle Purina and Doerksen Country Store.

An outdoor pickleball tournament, sponsored by Stonebridge Community Services, follows at 10 a.m. at the community centre, and downtown at 10 a.m. it’s the Bay Street Frog Toss, sponsored by the Legion Branch 379.

You will see many of the children throwing their plastic frogs wearing wacky hair, which they will be entering in the Wacky Hair Contest at 10:30 a.m., sponsored by The Cutting Wave (ages 5-13).

Children ages 4-16 can bring their own hula hoops for the Hula Hoop Contest at 11 a.m., sponsored by The Thrift Shoppe.

Shifting back to the Community Centre Park, Lighthouse on the Bay sponsors a 12 p.m. noon Kids Casting Contest – bring your own pole – for children ages 4-16 (poles supplied for the youngest age division).

Glendinning Funeral Home, Mark Rose Automotion and Shear Creations sponsor the 2 p.m. Soap Box Derby on Cenotaph Hill. Ages 8-88 (or older) race their pre-built soapbox cars for prizes.

And for those who like ice cream, Twins Ice Cream Parlour sponsors an Ice Cream Eating Contest at 3 p.m. for ages 5-7, 8-10, 11-13, and adults. Contestants pre-registered at Twins, with the first 20 eligble for each division, but last year some late additions were made to cover the ‘no shows.’

Saturday night’s entertainment is a downtown Street Dance and beer tend from 8-11 p.m.

Sunday morning events include a kids fishing derby, brunch at the Legion, adult casting competition, interdenominational Christian worship service, the continuation of the Canadian Long Driving competition at Stark’s Golf Course, four-on-four volleyball at the skate park, and new this year, a Big Boy Toy Show downtown at Bay Street, 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for everything from classic cars to antique tractors, leading up to the parade at 2 p.m.

The Fireguy skateboard show will keep the gathering parade crowd entertained from 12-1 p.m., sponsored by Port Rowan Pharmasave and Duck’s Landing.

Donations for fireworks will be accepted at the parade.

Long Point Lioness host a Chicken BBQ and Pie Sale at the community centre, and the Norfolk Fire Station No. 9 hosts a Pork BBQ, both starting at 4 p.m.

Downtown at 4 p.m., watch for the Redneck Rodeo where participants compete in zany activities, and adults race lawnmowers.

The Atkinson McDonald Band will entertain before the fireworks from 7-9 p.m., then a 9 p.m., Bayfest concludes with the fireworks by Sky Design, with special thanks to the Port Rowan firefighters for their assistance.
