A Sobeys employee in Simcoe became a Value Champion this month.
Kara Hoskins, a bagger at the grocery store, received the company-wide award on Dec. 17.
To become a recipient of the award an employee needs to be nominated by someone at their store. All nominees are reviewed by a panel of board members.
“It was an honour,” said Hoskins of discovering she was chosen. “I was surprised.”
Once gatherings are allowed again, Hoskins will be attending the National Sobeys Gala in Halifax.
She said she is looking forward to the event.
“I’m excited,” she said.
Customers may recognize Hoskins as a bagger and cart collector.
“She’s absolutely wonderful, reliable, a team player, and always willing to talk,” store manager Chris MacDonald said of Hoskins.
He said Hoskins is “definitely customer service focused.”
The award recognizes employees who exemplify one of the company’s four core values: Customer driven, people powered, community engaged and results oriented.
Hoskins’s award was for meeting the value of people powered.
Further information on the award is available on the Sobeys website.
“The overriding principle has always been the same: to celebrate employees who exemplify the values that exist at the heart of Sobeys,” said the website. “This event takes place in Halifax and provides our annual Value Champions the opportunity to celebrate together, and our leadership team the opportunity to highlight these amazing employees individually and collectively.”
A full list of all of the recipients can be found at sobeysvaluechampions.com. Over 1,000 employees are listed on the honour roll dating back to recipients in 2005.
