Assault leads to arrest in Tillsonburg

On Monday, June 1, at approximately 10:30 a.m., the Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police received a report of an assault in progress at business on Broadway, Tillsonburg.

Investigation determined that a customer became verbally aggressive with an employee, which led to the physical confrontation. Police were called after the staff member was assaulted.

Members of the Oxford County OPP attended and made efforts to deescalate the situation. The individual turned their behaviour towards the police and subsequently assaulted one of the officers.

Minor injuries were incurred by both the store employee and officer.

As a result, a 74-year-old from Norfolk County, was arrested and charged with the following offences: Assault; Assault Peace Officer; Uttering Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm (x2).

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Woodstock at a later date.

Wanted person arrested in Tillsonburg

On Sunday, May 31, at approximately 4:10 p.m., the Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police received a report that a person with an outstanding warrant was riding a bicycle on Broadway, Tillsonburg.

Members of the Oxford County OPP located and arrested the individual known to police and confirmed the warrant.

As a result, 37-year-old Jeffrey Rachar of Tillsonburg has been further charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime – Under $5,000.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Woodstock at a later date.

Stolen vehicle stopped near Tillsonburg

Elgin County OPP arrested and charged two individuals with numerous criminal offences after police were alerted to a stolen vehicle being operated in the Aylmer area on Monday, June 1st around 11:20 a.m.

OPP, along with Aylmer Police Service members, were involved in the investigation which began with a report from a vehicle tracking service of a stolen vehicle from the Strathroy area being in the Aylmer area.

Police located the vehicle on Highway 3 at the west end of Aylmer at which time the suspect vehicle failed to stop for police. Police were able to track the vehicle and remotely disable it when it was safe to do so via the vehicle tracking service.

The vehicle was safely stopped in the area of Highway 3 just east of Bell Mill Side Road, east of Tillsonburg. The vehicle’s two occupants fled on foot – one was immediately apprehended by officers while the second was arrested a short time later by the OPP K9 and Emergency Response Team members (ERT).

Police have charged a 27-year-old Thames Centre resident with: Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000 contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code; Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the of the Criminal Code; Flight from a Police Officer contrary to section 320.17 of the of the Criminal Code; Dangerous Driving contrary to section 320.12(1) of the Criminal Code; Failing to Comply with a Release Order x 2 contrary to section 145(5)(a) of the Criminal Code; Use of a Credit Card contrary to section 342(1)(c) of the Criminal Code.

The 27-year-old remains in custody pending a show cause bail hearing.

Police also charged a 26-year-old of no fixed address with: Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000 contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code; Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the of the Criminal Code; Unlawfully in a Dwelling House contrary to contrary to section 349(a) of the Criminal Code; Possession of a Prohibited Device contrary to section 92(2) of the Criminal Code.

The 26-year-old was released from custody on a Promise to Appear pending a future court date.

Motors, gas tanks, batteries stolen from Bell Mill Side Road farm

On Monday, June 1, at approximately 3:28 p.m., the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Norfolk County Detachment investigated a theft at a Bell Mill Side Road, Middleton Township address.

It was determined that between Saturday, May 30, and June 1, unknowns removed three Honda motors, gas tanks and batteries, valued at approximately $15,000, from three ginseng buggies on the property

Norfolk County OPP is continuing to investigate and seek the public’s assistance. If anyone has any information they are asked to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

Utility trailer stolen in Wyecombe

On Monday, June 1, the OPP Norfolk County Detachment investigated a theft at a Rose Marie Boulevard, North Walsingham address.

It was determined that between Friday, May 29, and Monday, June 1, unknowns removed a utility trailer from the property. The trailer is described as a black-coloured 6×12′ enclosed utility trailer.
