Another COVID-19 death is being reported at Bluewater Health.

A 66-year-old male is the 75th person to die in Sarnia hospital of COVID-19, a Bluewater Health official said.

Bluewater Health chief of staff Dr. Mike Haddad tweeted Saturday there have been nine COVID-19 deaths locally in the last 10 days.

COVID-19 deaths in Sarnia hospital have also included people from outside Sarnia-Lambton.

Public health reported an additional two COVID-19 deaths Saturday, bringing the local death toll to 88.

Details about the individuals and when they died weren’t immediately available from public health.

The number of people in hospital with COVID-19 Saturday was 33, up from 29 Friday.

Of those, 10 were in intensive care, officials said.

Fourteen of 33 were fully vaccinated.

An outbreak at Sarnia’s hospital was declared late Friday with six patients testing positive.

There were 12 total active outbreaks in Sarnia-Lambton Saturday, up from nine a day earlier.

Another 168 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Sarnia-Lambton were counted in Saturday’s update.

Of the 6,867 cases to date, 1,295 were active and 5,484 were resolved.

The latest seven-day incidence rate of confirmed COVID-19 cases per 100,000 population in Lambton was 654.3.

Due to recent testing changes, the number of cases being reported is considered a “substantial underestimate” of the actual figure, Lambton medical officer of health Dr. Sudit Ranade said recently.

For every confirmed case, officials believe there are another three to four unknown cases in the community.
