Condensed to just half a day this year – from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Nov. 15 at the Burnside Agriplex in Stratford – the Alzheimer Society of Perth County and Stratford Lakeside Active Adults Association event is packing as much or more than what was offered at previous Active Living Fairs into a tighter schedule.

At 11 a.m., the fair’s first presentation will be delivered by Alzheimer society staff, focusing on the intersection of healthy brains and healthy living. After lunch, however, the presentations will kick into high gear with what organizers are calling a rapid podium – seven presenters, each speaking on a different topic for seven minutes.

“We used to do an 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. event, and it was just too long of a day is what people have said,” Alzheimer society education co-ordinator Sheri Gilhula said. “So we just wanted to shorten that, but we still wanted to make it really impactful for the people that are there.”

The rapid-fire presentations will explore topics such as cannabis use among seniors, scams and fraud, the Ontario health system, and updates on local community programs, among others.

“Certainly all of those topics are presented on in other places at other times, so people can just get a snippet of information and then if they want to learn more they can commit to coming to another session,” Gilhula said.

The Active Living Fair will also feature information booths from more than 20 community organizations, ranging from local health and community service providers to travel agencies and more.

Those who attend will have the option to purchase lunch for $5, have the chance to win door prizes, and will have access to onsite parking. Registration for the Active Living Fair is not required.
