“We’re so thrilled to announce the official opening of the Cowan Community Health Hub,” Mayor David Bailey said in a statement released Tuesday. “It will serve the community well and we have so many people to thank for the success of this great new community asset.

“Access to quality health care and social services is imperative for our residents, especially as our population continues to age.”

The 41,365-square-foot building cost $13 million. A public fundraising campaign to help with the cost has raised $1.8 million toward a $2-million goal. The Cowan Foundation donated $800,000.

“Without our donors, we wouldn’t be here today,” Bailey said. “We are so grateful for their generosity.

“We still have 10 per cent left to raise in our campaign, so please donate if you can.”

Bailey thanked Norlon Builders of London and Edge Architects of Waterloo for creating a “green” state-of-the-art facility.

The building includes sustainable design features, including a vegetated “green” roof, solar panels, electric vehicle charging stations and energy efficient fixture and equipment.
