Funds donated to GDCI athletics in late mayor’s memory

GODERICH – A cheque in the amount of $5,453.08 was recently presented to the Goderich District collegiate institute athletic department in the memory of Myles Murdock.

The late Goderich mayor and teacher died Aug. 17, 2023, and always wished there was a fund available to support students who wanted to engage in high school sports but were unable to because of an inability to pay the required fees.

Curlers at The Maitland raised money and maintained funds to support junior curling and to provide year-end prizes, but the curling club was closed during the 2022-2023 season after a breakdown in the cooling system. The curling committee opted to donate the remaining funds to the GDCI athletic department to be used to help fulfil Murdock’s dream.
