Pork Congress moves to a virtual show

The Ontario Pork Congress (OPC) board of directors has decided to make the 2020 OPC virtual!
“The Ontario Pork Congress will transition to hosting an online virtual show as a result of the quickly changing COVID-19 pandemic and with guidance from public health officials,” the board announced last week.
Traditionally, the two-day event, in mid-June, takes over the Stratford Rotary Complex. The building is currently closed until the end of April.
Trish Littlejohn, the project manager for OPC, told Ontario Farmer that details are being worked out, and will be announced as they are determined, “at a later date!”
“The OPC board understands that there will be many questions with respect to what the new virtual format will look like and what this change means to producers, sponsors, exhibitors, participants, and industry partners,” the press release stated.
“The board of directors will distribute details and information as it becomes available to all that are involved with the OPC event. We appreciate your patience as we work to finalize these details and work to organize the new OPC virtual event.”
Last year, the OPC was “bursting at the seams” with 146 exhibitors. It featured a “taste the best” with a half dozen or so restaurants preparing apps using pork hocks. Sixty-five young people participated in The Bacon Maker Classic, testing their skills at showing live pigs. International workers were offered special tour in Spanish, and a seminar on farm safety. The show attracts over 1,000 visitors.
The OPC has been gradually adopting more digital technology for the past couple of years. It introduced on-line guest registration in 2018, and this year, the exhibitors have been able to book on-line.
