Staff at Collins Bay Institution discovered and seized a package of contraband last Friday evening that was found on the institution’s perimeter.
The contraband seized included a large quantity of tobacco. The total estimated institutional value of the seizure was $16,863.
A suspected drone delivered the contraband, said Mike Shrider, acting regional communications manager for Correctional Service Canada.
The correctional service also works in partnership with the police to take action against those who attempt to introduce contraband into correctional institutions, the release said.
