The first show of the year might be a hard act to follow.
Thorndale’s Purple Hill Country Opry opens 2020 Sunday with a star-studded lineup of performers from this region and beyond.
Prince Edward Island fiddling star Billy MacInnis, The Small Town Girls, Caroline Burchill, Hector Sturgeon, Rick Louks, Brent Jones, Dan Peer and area country star Shelly Rastin – all backed by the Canadian Country Show Band – will perform at the afternoon show that’s followed by a roast beef and chicken dinner.
The day’s events includes the induction of Steve Smith into the Purple Hill Hall of Honour.
This is Purple Hill’s first show since December, when musicians from across Ontario and other parts of Canada gathered at a benefit for fiddling icon and Forest City London Music Hall of Fame inductee John P. Allen, who received a heart transplant in September and hadn’t worked since that spring.
