“It’s a very busy calendar this spring, which means there’s lot of choices,” said theatre manager Glenn Brown. It’s certainly been an education to learn how to bring all this together into a cohesive season. It’s been a different journey than a typical year.”

Brown announced the line-up at an in-person launch for the 2022 season last week, attended by sponsors, centre-stage patrons, members, staff and media.

No Woman’s Land will take to the stage on March 10, 2022 exploring the world of refugee camps from a female perspective.

The Mush Hole, a theatrical dance performance developed by the Woodland Cultural Centre and choreographer Santee Smith of Six Nations, will be presented on March 30. The show weaves through the traumatic memories of two generations of residential school survivors, featuring cinematic imagery, musical score and an all Indigenous cast.

“That will be our first attempt at a virtual school program,” said the theatre manager. “We will provide streaming of the (afternoon) performance to local schools in the event they’re not able to do class trips to the theatre by then.”

Other music acts of note include David Clayton Thomas, best known as the lead vocalist for Blood, Sweat and Tears; The Celtic Tenors; Marie Bottrell; and Twin Flames, a Canadian duo with a combined ancestry of English, French and Inuktitut who push the boundaries of contemporary folk.

“Our big headline show for the spring season – for the first time since his breakout first album – is Johnny Reid,” noted Brown. “He’s doing a series of intimate shows at smaller venues that will offer connections that make it really special.”
