Woodstock man fined $1,200 for wild turkey hunting offences

A Woodstock man has been fined $1,200 for hunting violations under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act.
Gerald Canlas pleaded guilty and was fined $600 for unlawfully killing more than one wild turkey in one day and $600 for failing to immediately attach a game seal to a wild turkey.
Court heard that on May 3, 2018, a conservation officer responded to a complaint received through the MNRF TIPS line concerning wild turkey hunting in Oxford County. An investigation determined that on April 26, 2018, Canlas shot two wild turkeys even though he was licensed to harvest only one that day. He also failed to attach a game seal to the first turkey harvested.
Justice of the Peace Kristine Diaz heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Woodstock, on June 21, 2018.
The ministry reminds the public that it is illegal to harvest more than one wild turkey in the same day and that game seals must immediately be attached at the kill site.
