Nineteen Oxford County teams are vying for positions at WOSSAA

Oxford County high schools have 19 teams in the hunt for a spot at WOSSAA with the division playoffs continuing this week and next.

Basketball and volleyball will have their ‘A’ and ‘AA’ WOSSAA’s Feb. 22 at various locations in Oxford, Elgin, Middlesex, Huron and Perth counties, with hockey and curling finals March 6.

Nordic skiing WOSSAA was Feb. 12 and swimming regionals are today at London’s Canada Games Aquatic Centre.

 

JUNIOR GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

St. Thomas’ Parkside Collegiate Institute will host the junior girls’ ‘AA’ volleyball semifinals and finals today.

College Avenue will play Aylmer’s East Elgin Secondary School at 9 a.m. in the semifinal. CASS defeated Glendale High School 3-0 (25-11, 25-7, 25-14) in their quarter-final game Tuesday to make the semis.

Ingersoll District Collegiate Institute will play Parkside at 9 a.m. in the semifinal match at Parkside. The Blue Bombers beat Huron Park 3-1 (22-25, 25-14, 25-15, 25-15) in the quarter-finals Tuesday to continue to the next round.

The winner of each game will play in the Southeast Division ‘AA’ finals at 1 p.m. The winner of the division title will represent the Southeast at ‘AA’ WOSSAA Feb. 22.

West Lorne’s West Elgin Secondary School will host the ‘A’ Southeast Division junior and senior girls’ volleyball finals today.

Woodstock Collegiate Institute will play Glencoe District High School at 10:30 a.m. If they win, they’ll play the winner of Lord Dorchester and West Elgin at 2 p.m. The winner will play at ‘A’ WOSSAA Feb. 22.

 

SENIOR GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

The senior girls’ ‘AA’ volleyball finals will also be held by St. Thomas’ Parkside Collegiate Institute with CASS meeting Parkside at 11 a.m. CASS beat Tillsonburg’s Glendale 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-18) in their quarter-final match Tuesday.

IDCI will play St. Thomas’ Central Elgin Collegiate Institute at 11 a.m. after they earned a quarter-final bye by coming first in the East Division with an undefeated record.

The Southeast Division ‘AA’ championship game will feature the winners of both semifinals at 3 p.m. The winner continues to ‘A’ WOSSAA Feb. 22.

West Elgin Secondary School in West Lorne will host the senior girls’ A’ volleyball semifinals and finals with WCI playing Glencoe District High School at 12 p.m. The winner of that game will play the winner of West Elgin and Lord Dorchester in the finals at 4 p.m, with the winner advancing the ‘A’ WOSSAA Feb. 22.

 

JUNIOR BOYS’ BASKETBALL

WCI will host the junior boys’ ‘A’ Southeast Division final today at 3 p.m. against Lord Dorchester. The winner will move on to ‘A’ WOSSAA Feb. 22

The Red Devils beat St. Thomas’ Arthur Voaden 42-38 in the semifinals Tuesday.

CASS will also hold the ‘AA’ Southeast Division final at 3 p.m. today versus St. Thomas’ Central Elgin. The winner will advance to ‘AA’ WOSSAA Feb. 22.

The Knights defeated Parkside 37-26 in their semifinal game Tuesday to make the finals.

In the London District Catholic Division, St. Mary’s hosted London’s Mother Teresa Catholic High School Wednesday afternoon and came out with a 72-47 win in the ‘AA’ semifinal. The winner plays in the ‘AA’ final Friday at Fanshawe College in London at 11 a.m.

 

SENIOR BOYS’ BASKETBALL

WCI’s senior boys’ basketball team will play on home court for the ‘A’ Southeast Division title at 4:30 p.m., with the game’s winner advancing to ‘A’ WOSSAA Feb. 22 and a chance at OFSAA.

CASS will play St. Thomas’ Central Elgin at 4:30 p.m. today on their home gym in the Southeast Division ‘AA’ finals. The winner will move onto ‘AA’ WOSSAA Feb. 22 for a shot at OFSAA.

 

VARSITY GIRLS’ HOCKEY

CASS’ girls’ hockey team will play West Elgin in the ‘B’ semifinal at 9 a.m. at the Dorchester Thames Centre Recreation Complex. Huron Park will play in the second semifinal game at 10 a.m. against East Elgin. The winner of both games will meet in the ‘B’ final at 1 p.m. The consolation ‘B’ final will be at 2 p.m.

WCI will play Parkside at 3 p.m. today in Woodstock in game two of their semifinal series. The Red Devils lost game one 5-1 of their best-of-three series.

IDCI beat Glendale 3-1 in game one of their quarter-final series Tuesday and 5-0 Wednesday in the second game. IDCI advances to the semifinals next week.

 

VARSITY BOYS’ HOCKEY

Huron Park swept CASS in their best-of-three game quarter-final series this week. Huron Park won the first game 12-1 and the second game Wednesday 5-0. They’ll continue to the semifinals next week.

IDCI won game one of their quarter-final series against Glendale 8-2 Monday, while Glendale rebounded with a 5-2 victory in game two. The two teams will meet in a decisive game three today at 2 p.m.
