Holiday Tour of Homes adds evening hours

Looking for Christmas decorating ideas? Tis the season - the Tillsonburg's annual Holiday Tour of Homes on Saturday, November 25 is fast approaching.

New this year, the Holiday Tour of Homes will run from 4-9 p.m., providing an opportunity to see the decorated homes and businesses in late afternoon or evening hours.

"This is something new," said Deb Beard, General Manager of The Station Arts Centre. "We wanted to try an evening tour because people enjoy the homes lit up inside, the way they decorate. It was recommended to us a few times and we thought we'd give it a go this year."

When you see them in the daytime, said Beard, you don't get the full effect.

"They'll get a different perspective on the lighting. So we thought we'd give it a try."

Late November is also a busy time of the year, she said, and evening hours might be more convenient for some people.

The Holiday Tour of Homes is organized through a partnership between the Tillsonburg Kinette Club and The Station Arts Centre.

Ticket prices are the same this year - $10 each in advance, or $12 on the day of the tour. Tickets are available at the Station, Annandale National Historic Site and Tillsonburg Garden Gate.

Funds raised will benefit both the Station and the Kinette Club of Tillsonburg.

"We have a unique home on the tour this year," said Beard. "Seven Gables is joining us this year."

Traditional stops include the Station, where the Tea Room will serve cider and hot beverages. Annandale National Historic Site, normally closed Saturdays, will be open to 9 p.m. on the 25th.

"It's a unique situation for them," said Beard.

"Theatre Tillsonburg asked if they could be on the tour again this year, decked out for the holidays. They haven't been on the tour in many years, so we said 'sure'."

Three more homes give them a total of seven stops on the 2017 Tour.

"The nice thing about this year's tour is that it won't be piled on to a lot of other things that weekend," said Beard. "People will be able to take their time and look around."

The Kinettes and The Station are grateful to everyone who put their homes on the tour along with those who sponsored and donated door prizes to this event.
