I think I might have to turn on my furnace soon. We have had it pretty easy so far this fall but we all know it’s coming whether we like it or not.
Have heard some predictions of a warmer, dry winter and others, according to those who study nature predicting a hard, cold winter. Take your pick.
It will be what it is regardless of our whining, complaining or hatred of it. So let’s just enjoy it. I know, it’s a lot easier said than done especially if you have to go out and scrape the windshield and/or dig out the driveway before you go to work. You could be down south where you have to contend with hurricanes and Trump!
One way to overcome the winter blues is to look forward to the joys of Christmas. That may not be a great alternative for those Grinchy folks but it can take your mind off your misery. Christmas warms the soul and you can expand that warm glow by starting early to plan and shop.
I have a great idea. Come out to Otterville on November 18 and 19 to get you in the mood and find some original, one of a kind Christmas gifts for those special folks in your life.
Welcome Back To Otterville studio tour runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. You will get a warm welcome to each studio and can loiter as long as you want enjoying the works of art each artist has on display.
On the tour this year are some of your favourites - the celebrated watercolour paintings of Sue Goossens, unique and imaginative acrylics of Mae Leonard, contemporary theoretical paintings of Shirley Hokke and the vibrant watercolour and digital art of Lianne Todd. All have been working hard to present new and interesting works of art to captivate you.
Ralph Moore will again be featuring his birdfeeders and bird seed just in time for the season. Make wonderful gifts for the nature lover in your life. Shawn Pinnoy of Stix and Skids upcycles whatever he can find to create exceptional home décor, wreaths, bird houses, signs and much more. Bryan Maertens of Nordale Woodworking will showcase his beautiful, handmade, solid wood furniture and poly lawn furniture.
Be sure to stop at Tammy Gould’s studio, Creative Laser Engraving, if you are looking for a personal, beautifully engraved gift for that someone special in your life. Jillian and Kaleb, of In Blooms Design, fashion vivid and earthy jewelry using gemstones, mixed metals and exotic woods.
Trudy Verberne, a tour favourite, designs handmade cards for every occasion and will create to your specifications. Trudy will be at my house so when you come see her exquisite, detailed cards you have to look at my stuff, too. I have been working on watercolour on canvas but have some oils as well.
Mark the dates on your calendar. You can also go to the Welcome Back to Otterville website to get the contact information on each studio.
