Brrr! what happened to our warm temperatures last week! The rain did stay away so we were able to complete a full slate of games.

Last weekend was successful for a few area slo-pitch players in major tournaments, Indi-Girls Kathy Vanderven, Tamarah Schultz and Amanda Stubbs were members of the Phoenix squad who won the Ladies B-C SPO Provincial Championship title in London.

Kaitlin Anseeuw also from Indi-Girls was a force in Ladybirds Canadian A Championship victory played in Quebec. A former Tillsonburg player Dave Boldt was part of a men's team that finished third in the same Championships. Barry Howick a member of the Hounds in Mens A was a double winner this past weekend winning the Super Series C title as well as the Provincial Championships with the Hamilton Junior Jays. Kent Collings, Trevor Stuyt, Jarrett Anderson and Sean Little of the G.C. Lounsbury squad were members of the fourth place Aftermath team coached by for Hitmen alumnist Kent Collings Sr.  Congrats to all!

Mens A

The G.C. Lounsbury-Maple View Variety series has certainly been one of the more interesting series. After Maple View tied the series on Tuesday, G.C. took the series lead with a dramatic come from behind victory on Thursday night.

Kekambas became the first casualty of the playoffs after being swept by second place I.C. Waters however they didn't go down without a fight as they lost the last game by just two.

Roosters gave Haines Roofing all they could handle in the clinching game of their series losing out by just three.

Robert Q Travel forfeited on Friday so there will be a fourth game in their series with Hounds, the Q are up 2-1.

Game#2

Maple View Variety-9     G.C. Lounsbury-7

Maple View-Abe Boldt 3-3, Johnny Epp 1-2, Randy Miller Hr, Ryan Miller

G.C.-Jarrett Anderson 2-3 Hr, Justin Miller 3-3, Devin Lee Hr, Sean Miller Hr

Game Highlights-Maple View scored five sixth inning runs to overtake G.C. Randy Miller drove in two in the rally which produced the winning run.

G.C. Lounsbury-22     Maple View Variety-21

G.C.-Kent Collings 6-6 Hr, Trevor Stuyt 5-6 Hr

Maple View-Peter Epp 6-6 Hr, Nathan Klassen 5-6 Hr, RJ Peters 2 Hr, 

Game Highlights- Trevor Stuyt had the walk off hit scoring Kent Collings from second in the eighth inning. G.C. stole this one away plating six in the sixth to force extra innings.

Robert Q- Billy Wilson 3-4, Ryan Black 4-4 Hr, Darren Pace Hr, Josh Stubbs 2 Hr, Randy Zylstra Hr

Hounds- Chris Brittain 3-3, Lance MacKenzie 2-3, Kyle Waite 2 Hr, Barry Howick Hr, Scott Ball Hr

Game Highlights-Robert Q broke up a close game by scoring six fourth inning runs. Randy Zylstra led off the rally with a homer.

Hounds-Mike Bouck 4-4 Hr, Chris Brittain 2-3

Game Highlights-Robert Q plated seven in four of their five at bats taking advantage of a shorthanded Hounds squad. Billy Wilson, Bryan Deblaire and Ryan Black each scored five runs.

I.C. Waters-23     Kekambas-21

I.C.-Chris VanParys 4-4 Hr, Mike Shewan 4-4 Hr, Steve Leacock Hr, Darren Cadette Hr

Kekambas- Kyle Smith 5-5 Hr, Matt Pazstor 4-4, Travis Horvath 2 Hr, Kyle Hollister 2 Hr

Game Highlights- I.C.'s seven run fifth decided it as Kekambas replied with a five run rally the next inning. Chris VanParys led the winner's who was just a triple shy of hitting for the cycle.

Haines Roofing-18     Roosters-9

Haines- Scott Harris 4-4, Dan Clark 4-5, Kevin Harrop 3 Hr, John Ralf Hr

Roosters- Greg Buchner 3-4 Hr, Nate Malcolm 2-3 Hr, Mark Hamulecki Hr, Steve Hamulecki Hr

Game Highlights-Haines put up thirteen runs in the middle innings, Kevin Harrop hit a three run and a two run homer in the two innings.

Game#3

Haines Roofing-17     Roosters-14

Haines-Scott Balazs 3-4, Chris Durham 4-4, Phil Durham 2 Hr, Kevin Harrop Hr

Roosters-Jared Pettman 3-4, Jon Hall 3-4, Matt Helleniak Hr, Perry Robinson Hr

Game Highlights-Haines scored seven sixth inning runs to put the dagger in the Roosters season. Phil Durham 's second consecutive homer was the game winner.

Men's B

East Elgin Spartans swept their series with Brew Jays winning the last game by forfeit. They won the second game by nine and await series to determine who will be the lowest seed advancing. Ward's Automotive joined the Spartans after they won their third straight to end their series with Wine And Beer. Corey's Restaurant have a commanding 2-0 lead in their series with Pelicans after they came from behind to walk it off in Game#2.

The series between the red and white jerseys is led by Diamond Dogs after a walk off win in their third game over Nancy's Variety.

East Elgin Spartans-21     Brew Jays=12

East Elgin-Martin Klassen 4-5, Ozy Escamilla 4-5

Brew Jays-Ryan Haegens 3-4, Devon Schultz 3-4

Game Highlights- Johnny Klassen led the Spartans with a pair of doubles and four runs batted in.

Ward's Automotive-10     Wine And Beer-9

Ward's- Trevor Hawley 4-4, Mike Mudford 3-4, Troy Lamoure Hr

Wine And Beer- Stephen Hawel 2-3, Tyler Marr 3-3

Game Highlights-Pat Tanner had the walk off hit for Ward's plating Troy Lamoure. Lamoure led the winner's with a homer and a double.

Ward's Automotive- 25     Wine And Beer-10

Ward's- Pat Tanner 5-6, Connor Smith 5-6

Wine And Beer-Josh Neilsen 3-3, Tyler Marr 4-4

Game Highlights-Connor Smith led Ward's with a pair of doubles and five runs scored, Jeff Prouse chipped in with three doubles.

Game#2

Nancy's Variety-17     Diamond Dogs-12

Nancy's- Steve Smith 4-4, Dan McRae 4-4, Marty Hawel Hr

Diamond Dogs- Dave Lockstep 4-4, Rob Underhill 4-4, Dallas Dalby Hr

Game Highlights-Nancy's did most of their damage late plating six in each of their last two at bats.

Diamond Dogs- Dave Phipps 4-4, Kevin McDonald 5-5 Dallas Dalby Hr, Doug Falkins 2 Hr

Nancy's- Derek Kunderman 4-5, Darryl Whittington 3-4

Game Highlights-Doug Falkins feasted on Nancy's pitching hitting two homers and a single with seven runs batted in. His second homer was a two run walk off shot.

Game#2

Corey's Restaurant-7     Pelicans-6

Corey's- Shawn Ryerse 3-3, Justin Clapdorp 2-3, Eric Vanwynsberghe Hr

Pelicans -Adam Jensen 2-3, Andrew Dawson 2-3

Game Highlights-Jay Vandomele had the walk off hit in Corey's four run seventh, Justin Clapdorp courtesy ran for consecutive batters and scored both times.

Men's C

Hit N Run were the first to escape the first round in C as they mercied Falcons in the second game and won by nine in the clincher.

They now await outcomes of series between second place Boston Pizza and McKenzie Carquest if Mckenzie pulls an upset currently down two games to one they would play the winner of Hammertime-John Beere series led right now by Hammertime Brad Cole Orioles would then face McKenzie, if Boston Pizza prevails Hit N Run would play them and Orioles would play the winner of the other series. Boston Pizza mercied McKenzie in their second game but had to forfeit their third.

Hammertime won twice this past week to take the series lead meanwhile the older Orioles squad rest and rest and rest.

Hit N Run-17     Falcons-1

Hit N Run-Franz Klassen 3-3, Herman Enns 3-3, Diedrich Klassen Hr, Abe Klassen Hr

Falcons-Jake Friesen 2-2, Peter Dyck 2-3

Game Highlights-Abe Klassen, Franz Klassen and Jake Klassen each drove in three for Hit N Run against the nine man Falcons squad.

Game#3

Hit N Run-17     Falcons-8

Hit N Run-Jacob Klassen 3-3, Herman Enns 3-3, Jake Klassen 2 Hr, Abe Klassen Gr Slam

Falcons-Willy Penner 2-3, John Wiehe 4-4 Hr

Game Highlights-Falcons playing with a lot of heart trailed by just one after four complete, Hit N Run put the game away with a seven run sixth, Abe Klassen hit a grand slam in the rally.

Game#2

Hammertime-24     John Beere-10

Hammertime- Tom Gammage 4-4, Dave Teal 4-4 Hr, Tim Miners Hr, Tim Pressey Hr, Jess Legg Hr

John Beere- Joe Ryan 3-3, Craig Boucher 3-3 Gr Slam

Game Highlights-Hammertime scored runs in all of their at bats, Dave Teal was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle.

Hammertime-Jess Legg 2-2 Hr, Tim Pressey  2-2, 2 Hr

John Beere-Kalvin Smith 3-3 Hr, Craig Boucher 2-2 Hr, Kevin Listar Hr

Game Highlights-This was the closest game of the series, Hammertime rode the long ball that contributed to seven of their nine runs, John Beere scored six of their seven runs in their final two at bats to make it close.

Game#2

Boston Pizza-23     McKenzie Carquest-8

Boston Pizza- Jayme Wallace 5-5, Kyle Jones 4-4

McKenzie- Dylan Proulx 3-4, Andrew Pocs 3-3

Game Highlights-Jayme Wallace reached five times and scored four runs for Boston Pizza.

Ladies A

Once again it will be the top two teams playing in the Ladies A final as Corey's Restaurant will be out to avenge last season's title loss to Indi-Girls.

Corey's completed their sweep of Service Master with a come from behind 14-8 victory in Game#3. Service Master deserved a better fate as they led in two of the three. Indi-Girls mercied Jays in the series clincher after dropping a one run decision in their third game.

The finals commenced Monday and tonight's game is at 7:45 on Annandale 3.

Game#3

Corey's Restaurant-14     Service Master

Corey's- Deb Simmonds 2-2, Jill Ferguson 2-2

Service Master- Steph Erdelac 3-3, Kayla Bond 2-3

Game Highlights-Both teams scored six runs in the third. Corey's finished off the win with a six run sixth. Jill Barnim and Tab Moulton each drove in two in the rally.

Game#3

Jays-15     Indi-Girls-14

Jays- Melissa Hughes 3-4, Kirstie Jones 4-4, Jess Falk Hr

Indi-Girls- Kelly Spencer 3-4, Jess Anseeuw 3-4

Game Highlights-Jays plated seven over their final two at bats to edge out Indi-Girls. Kirstie Jones led Jays with a pair of doubles and two runs scored.

Game#4

Indi-Girls-18     Jays-3

Indi-Girls- Amanda Stubbs 3-3, Nancy Hiebert 3-3

Jays- Shirley Moore 2-2, Deanna Laemers 1-2

Game Highlights-The game was close until Indi-Girls scored six in the fourth and fifth innings. Kaitlin Anseeuw led the winners with a pair of doubles.

Ladies B

Centre Point Contractors completed their sweep of Shady Acres coming from behind to win by three in their third game.

The first place Steelerz won in walk off fashion in Game#2 and wrapped it up winning by nine in the series clincher.

Steelerz will take on Centre Point in the best of five final.

Steelerz-18     Energy Productions-17

Steelers-Krystal Sivyer 4-4, Tracey Coderre 3-4

Energy-Lyndsay Miller 3-3, Jen Dahl 4-5, Jen Kichler Gr Slam

Game Highlights-Steelerz scored six sixth inning runs to tie it. Laurie Loughrin had the walk off hit in the seventh for Steelerz. Niki Lama and Belinda Loewen each scored three runs for Steelerz.

Game#4

Steelerz-17     Energy Productions-8

Steelers- Bri Johnston 4-4 Hr, Belinda Loewen 3-4

Energy- Kim Gillis 4-4, Lyndsay Miller 3-3

Game Highlights-Bri Johnston was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle for Steelerz. 

Game#3

Centre Point Contractors-15     Shady Acres-12

Centre Point- Andrea Holden 3-3, Mandi Howe 3-3

Shady Acres- Ashley Aker 2-3, Chani Homewood 3-3

Game Highlights-Shady Acres benefited from several base on balls to lead into the fourth. Centre Point tied it in their half and won it with a three run sixth.

Ladies C

Boston Pizza got their bats going in Game#3 in winning their first game of their series with Pitch Slap. Pitch Slap had won the first two in the best of seven final.

Game#2

Pitch Slap-19     Boston Pizza-8

Pitch Slap- Taylor Bailey 4-5, Kristen Corneille 5-5

Boston Pizza- Rachelle Platteeuw 3-3, Valerie Lockstein 2-3, Steph McDonald Hr

Game Highlights- Taylor Bailey led Pitch Slap with a two run triple and scored three runs.

Game#3

Boston Pizza-20     Pitch Slap-11

Boston Pizza- Steph McDonald 5-5, Kim Avey 5-5

Pitch Slap- Ange Fast 4-4, Erin Murray 4-4

Game Highlights- Boston Pizza broke up a fourth inning tie game plating eleven over their final three at bats. Kim Avey and Steph McDonald hit triples for the winners.
