Better signage needed

Please! Why can't there be better signage to warn westbound traffic on Simcoe Street that the Oxford Street right lane ends at Harvey Street?

From the county line westward the right lane is the through lane. Then you reach Tillson Ave. and you might spot the small sign saying traffic must exit.

Through traffic, often big rigs, must merge within a short block while going uphill.

That's crappy signage to provide smooth traffic flow!

In a previous letter, I pointed out that the first sign warning of the lane ending was hidden by tree limbs. This was corrected. But now that sign, about mid-block, has been replaced with one saying only "150 M"... To what?

The first sign actually saying traffic must turn is only a few meters from Harvey Street.

Why can't there be a sign at the top of Simcoe Street hill indicating the lane will end?

Local drivers heading to Broadway usually start moving left into the appropriate lane as soon as they start descending the hill.

How about warning strangers to do the same?

There should also be signage on Vienna Road warning traffic to use the inside lane to turn onto Simcoe Street in order to reach downtown and Highway 19 north.

Thank you Tillsonburg!

On May 16th, the Tillsonburg Horticultural Society hosted their 11th Annual Garden Auction. It was a tremendous success!

I would like to thank all of the Tillsonburg and area businesses, artists, crafters, woodworkers, and gardeners who generously donated plants, shrubs, trees, services and unique gift items. This enabled us to surpass our financial goals.

Thank you also to all of our volunteers who contributed time, expertise and hard work in support of the Garden Auction. Without their contributions, the size and scope of this event would not have been possible.

Lastly, thank you to those who attended the Garden Auction, raising their hands to bid and buy. Funds raised by the Horticultural Society through the Garden Auction support beautification projects in the community, thus ensuring that all of us can enjoy the fruits of this year’s Garden Auction.

Thank you.

Christine M. Nagy,

President of the Tillsonburg Horticultural Society

Re: Letter to MP Jane Philpott, Minister of Health

Just reading how you and your party need $142 million to "FIX" the system.

I am also reading how it was the Conservative's fault.

What I am not reading is that no one appears to be getting "fired" for this Bill!

Blaming the prior Government for a few months is considered normal behavior - "We did not realize how bad things were." Which, of course begs the question, "What the hell were you doing all of that time."

Get serious. Where is the vendor? I am pretty confident this was not developed in-house. From past history - Toronto computer scandal, Toronto road paving scandal - there is absolutely no interest in getting this fixed.

When does your Government start making people accountable. Oops, that has to start at the top, doesn't it? Do you realize that if these people spent their own money like the do mine, they would be lined up at the Good Shepherd ten miles long?

The only thing these people seem to be accountable for is cashing their pay checks. I bet there are no issues there.

And yet, no one cares!

I wish you were as carefree with MY money when it comes to Senior Citizen benefits.

Bill Kovach,

Tillsonburg
