Refurbished fountain returns to Lake Lisgar

Article content

The Kinsmen Fountaineers returned to better weather at the lake Saturday morning to launch the completely refurbished fountain.

The work is made possible with the help of volunteer Bram Dey and his 50-ton crane, as the club members placed the fountain in Lake Lisgar for the 24th season. Passersby may have noticed the fountaineers out on the barge working when they had to stop for a couple families of geese crossing the road that tied up traffic on Concession Street on more than one occasion Saturday morning.

Over the winter the fountain was completely disassembled and cleaned, then equipped with a new three-phase 15 horsepower motor. The new motor is operating more efficiently and pushing the water higher than ever before.

Repairs were made possible by The Glenn and Ellen Springer Trust which is administered by a Town committee. The Springers donated $50,000 several years ago to ensure the beauty of Lake was looked after. Glenn, a former Kinsmen, recognized the good work the Club has done since the Lake Lisgar Renaissance back in the 90s to keep the fountain in good order so all residents and visitors of Tillsonburg could enjoy it.

The Club members will return to the lake in late October to reverse the process and clean the fountain for another season of operation.
