The World is a Stage

If there was doubt in anyone’s mind whether climate change was real, this winter season should have cinched the reality for them. All the predictions of severe dramatic weather swings have come true.

The Indigenous people’s have the right understanding of the needs of our planet Earth and it matches the earliest book in the Old Testament, that we are the guardians of the earth. All Canadians from our First Nations people to our newest immigrants must understand the damage that has been incurred on the land and help to stop the downward slide of our natural resources and learn to hold them sacred. Indeed, we must toil to bring back those resources to sustainable levels. It is a challenge, which desperately needs to be immediately engaged.

First you must understand what precious natural resources are not. Not oil, not gas, not coal; not any more. Now that we have other ways of producing energy, they must be stopped for they are very destructive.

What our natural resources are: clean air, safe water, healthy soil, trees and native plants, mosses, needed for photosynthesis (oxygen) and wildlife. Wildlife includes the tiniest insects, to the biggest whales. Humans like nothing better than to kill plants or wildlife because it is ugly or smelly or in our way or because it taste good. But even the smallest, ugliest and stinkiest are needed to sustain the overall health and life of everything on earth.

The World Wildlife Fund notes we have lost half of our wildlife in the last 40 years. It is supposed to half again in the next 10-15 years. Five years ago the United Nations Environment Programme noted 200 species going extinct every day. That is plant, animal and insects. I don’t want to know what the rate is today. Houston, we have a problem!

The Indigenous people also look at the Prime Minister and Environment Minister as the parents of our country. As parents they must protect not only us, but the land, the air and the water. North America has been raped too many times for oil, gas, wood, and water. Anything that will make a Looney is more important than the consequences. Our government needs to stop the rape of the land. Stop the fracking, stop the sonic bombs in the arctic killing the whales and fish; stop the pipe lines that do leak and spill but are rarely mentioned in the news. If a tugboat can cause an environmental nightmare oil spill, what will happen in BC when even one of the multitude of monster tankers needed to remove more and more oil from the pipelines they want to build?

Big industries and business must be held accountable and stop their pollution and methods of creating their products that are harmful.

Nothing should be produced that is not recyclable - period.

Nothing should be taken from nature until there is a way of making it sustainable. Period.

Canadians like to complain to each other but rarely take any action. The time has come, if you want a descent earth left for your great-grandchildren, to force action. Forget computer games and reality shows, improve your own reality and work out how you can help physically. You can also email all the MP and MPPs. Get on a petition group online that makes a difference and fights for what you believe in. It can’t get any easier than pushing a button that puts your name on a petition today.

Yes, change will cost money. Canada is a rich country and we are very wasteful from what we buy with our money and how quickly we throw it out. It is our actions and habits that are causing the demise of our planet.

People have become obsessed and addicted to electronic devises. Humans are isolating themselves from human contact, socializing on Facebook and Twitter, and then wonder why they are lonely. Instead of going for a walk in the woods with a friend, they use a virtual reality headset and a treadmill, both costing money to buy and end up in dumps.

The younger generations are not volunteering. Our service clubs are closing. We are going to pay a lot more in taxes to replace what the volunteers have been doing to make our communities better and you are going to complain.

Examine your life and instead of wondering what people should do for you, take stock of the world around you and ask what you need to do help your planet, your country, your community, your neighbourhood your family and when all is well in those worlds, you will discover all is well with you too.
