Salford Village Cheese Mill theft valued at $6,200

Oxford County OPP are investigating the theft of a large amount of cheese from the Village Cheese Mill in South West Oxford Township.

Police said that on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at approximately 10:32 a.m., they received a report of a break and enter at the Village Cheese Mill.

Through the course of investigation it was determined that between Monday, Feb. 20 and Tuesday, Feb. 21, unknown people attended the address and forcibly gained entry into the business.

Once inside they entered a walk-in cooler and removed a large quantity of cheese, then attended the front of the store and removed a large quantity of Canadian currency along with several items which consisted of DVDs, fudge, meat sticks, maple syrup, shortbread, garbage tags, chocolate bars, stamps, international books, pre-stamped envelopes and Marilyn Monroe stamps.

Police said that the list of cheeses that was stolen includes; two 3.2 kg blocks of Havarti, five wheels of Gouda (two mild, two medium, one spiced), two rolls of smoked Gruyere, 40 lbs curds, one 4.54 kg old sharp, three medium 4.54 kg blocks, four extra old white 4.54 kg blocks, two extra old col. 4.54 kg blocks, one marble 4.54 block, one mozzarella 4.54 kg block, one dill and garlic, four five-year white cheddar, two five-year col. Cheddar, one white four-year cheddar, four caramelized onions, two onion and parsley and two sizzling hot jalapeno.

The theft is valued at approximately $6,200.

Oxford County OPP Const. Ed Sanchuck said someone in the community in the community will have information that will assist police with this investigation.

“I am asking them to have the courage to come forward and provide police with the necessary information that would assist in holding these individuals accountable,” Sanchuck said. “If anyone has any information, I am asking them to contact the police or if they wish to remain anonymous and be eligible for a cash reward, to please contact Crime Stoppers.”
