Big cheese heist in Salford

Some thieves in South West Oxford Township have a big craving for cheese.

Several thousand dollars worth of cheese and other items were stolen from Village Cheese Mill on Plank Line in Salford earlier this week.

The theft occurred sometime between Feb. 20 and Feb. 21, said Ontario Provincial Police.

The culprits forced their way into the shop. They took a large quantity of cheese from the cooler before heading to the front of the store where they removed other items.

"Someone in the community will have information that will assist police with this investigation. I am asking them to have the courage to come forward and provide police with the necessary information that would assist in holding these individuals accountable,” OPP Const. Ed Sanchuk said in a media release.

The police provided a list of the stolen cheese:

two blocks of Havarti; five wheels of Gouda; two rolls smoked Gruyere; 18 kilograms of curds; one 4.54 kg old sharp; three medium 4.54 kg block; four extra old white 4.54 kg block; two extra old col. 4.54 kg block; one marble 4.54 kg block; one mozzarella 4.54 kg block; one dill and garlic 5 kg; four 5-year white cheddar 5 kg; two 5-year col. cheddar 5 kg; one white 4-year cheddar 4.54 kg; four caramelized onion 2.2 kg; two onion and parsley 4.54 kg; two sizzling hot jalapeno 5 kg.

Cash was also stolen, as well as DVD'S, fudge, meat sticks, maple syrup, shortbread, garbage tags, chocolate bars, stamps, international books, pre-stamped envelopes and Marilyn Monroe stamps.

Stolen items are valued at $6,200.
