The World is a Stage

Street party time! Broadway is the street, Dec 2nd is the date, and the fun goes from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.!

It is the Christmas Crawl! No it is not that kind of party. This is a family event that can combine playing, eating and shopping as you go up and down our main street.

You want to register and pick up your Passport at the Crawl Office at the downtown mall beside the TD Bank at 5 p.m., and that is where you will bring them back by 9:30 p.m.

Once you have the passport your fun begins with a scavenger hunt - be on the look out for all the vintage toys on Santa’s list. These are the toys you used to play with as a child! You can show your children and grandchildren! Hahaha!

So you hit the stores looking around to find the toy, while at the same time you get to see what fantastic things you can buy right here in Tillsonburg - and support your neighbours and friends when you shop here! It is a win, win situation! Win is what you might do when you find all the toys, getting your passports stamped, which you then take back to the 'Crawl' office.

Prizes this year are: Handyman Tool Set ($300 value) from Crompton Home Hardware; Spa Gift Basket ($250 value) from Escapes Salon & Spa; Groceries for a week ($250 value) from Sobeys Tillsonburg; Paderno Wok with Steamer ($250 value) from Meyer Chiropractic; Luxury Bedding Accessories ($200 value) from Hurley’s Mattress & Appliance; and a Convertible Wagon and Sleigh ($150 value) from Canadian Tire.

The scavenger hung is fun and I know there are lots of goodies being handed out in the stores and businesses to take the chill from your bones if it is a cold night. So pop in, check out what they have to offer, warm up and set out again.

But that is not all! Santa Claus will be there with his LIVE reindeer down at Hurley’s Mattress and Appliance store! What a fantastic chance to meet Santa and the girls. Well, being as it is early December, some of the reindeer might be boys. Male reindeer drop their antlers in late November or early December, so only the girls still have antlers by Christmas time!

There will be horse and wagon rides, leaving from Metro from 5-8 p.m. There will be Reindeer Games, at 5:30, 6:15, and 7:45 p.m., location to be announced. These are Minute-To-Win-It style games, which will be a hoot to watch and even more fun to play.

Be sure to keep an eye out for Tburg’s Holly Jolly Elves. Yes, they are back again this year giving out all kinds of gifts and are guaranteed to put you in the Christmas spirit.

Also keep an eye out for some of Tillsonburg’s original Pioneers who will be strolling the streets. You will have the chance to meet and chat with our founders, George and Nancy Tillson; his son, E.D. and Mary Ann Tillson; Ben and Hannah VanNorman; Dr. & Mrs. Joy, Maria Weeks, Cynthia Adamson, and Annie Brady. Talk to them about Christmas’s past. Ask what life was like when they first came to settle in Tillsonburg.

You can even have your picture taken with them at Pic This Studio, which will be their base to get warmed up. Or you can have your photo taken with the whole group if you wish, specifically at 6 and 8 p.m. The charge of $10 will give you a 4x6 photo to walk out with, and maybe a cookie and hot cider too. The whole amount is being generously donated by owner Teresa Oldham to the Tillsonburg Historical Society Pioneers, to help restore our cemetery's mausoleums! (Dr. Joy’s eternal home is one of them!)

Watch your watches while you are roaming the streets as you don’t want to miss the official lighting of the Town Christmas Tree at 7 p.m. in front of the Library.

Tillsonburg’s Christmas Crawl is a chance for everyone in town to gather together, have fun and enjoy the festive season. See you there!
