20th annual Christmas with the Winds takes place Nov. 25 at 7:30 p.m.

An annual holiday tradition returns this year to Knox Presbyterian Church and will feature all three Oxford Winds ensembles and a special guest appearance by the Knox Chancel Choir.

The 20th annual Christmas with the Winds presented by the Oxford Winds Community Band will be held Friday, Nov. 25 at 7:30 p.m.

Musical director Stephanie Riehl said the evening will feature an eclectic mix of holiday favourites, including selections by Paul McCartney, Vince Guaraldi and traditional Christmas carols.

This year’s edition of Christmas with the Winds is in support of the Oxford branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the charitable organization that promotes mental health and support the recovery of people experiencing mental illness.

“Our bands are comprised of folks from all ages, and we’ve seen first hand the positive impact that playing and listening to music has on mental health,” Riehl said. “We hope this uplifting concert of holiday song brings joy to our audience, and helps continue the important conversation of mental health in our community.”

The Oxford Winds Community Concert Band was founded in 1996 with 12 musicians and has gradually grown to 40.

The concert band actually consists of three bands of various skill levels and includes The Oxford Winds, Oxford Breeze and Senior Winds.

Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door and are available at Merrifield Book Shop, The Record Score or by emailing info@oxfordwinds.ca. Children 12 and under are free.
