Students and staff members of the Thames Valley District School Board are determined to create real, lasting change in their school communities by raising at least $350,000 for the United Way.

This year’s district-wide campaign was officially launched in Tillsonburg Monday by Associate Director, Learning Support Services, Valerie Nielsen at a special event at Glendale High School.

“It is critical to recognize that our own students and staff may need to call on one of our United Way agencies, and supporting this year’s campaign will help to ensure that assistance is there when it is needed,” said Associate Director Valerie Nielsen in a media release.

Over the last 12 years, TVDSB students and staff have raised almost $4 million for the United Way agencies of Oxford, Middlesex London, and Elgin-St. Thomas.

“Creating the right conditions for education is something we strive for every day. Small donations from all of us provide big opportunities to impact the culture for learning.”

The largest portion of the TVDSB contribution to the campaign is made through employee payroll deductions, which support United Way agencies of Oxford, London & Middlesex, and St. Thomas-Elgin and the 85 community agencies they serve.

TVDSB contributions are allocated to United Way agencies in the community where the money was raised.
