The Ladies League finished off its first week of playoffs with all series ending up in sweeps. The Men's second round will commence this week with ten teams seeing action for the first time since late July, early August.

I have to congratulate Tillsonburg Men's Slo-pitch President Chris Parker and Rebecca Sandham on their nuptuals this past Saturday!

Ladies A

The top three teams easily advanced as Corey's Restaurant swept Hollister Kia while Indigo Lounge and Service Master also did respectively against Jays and Orange Crush.

Corey's receives a bye to the final. They will meet the winner of the best of three semi-final between Indigo and Service Master. 

Game 1

Corey's Restaurant-13 Hollister Kia-1

Corey's - Michelle Puhr (3-3) Shannon Oneill (4-4)

Kia - Jen Lee (2-2) Amber Campbell(2-2)

Game Highlights-Shannon Oneill led the winner's with a pair of doubles, Lauren Duffy added a triple, Mandi Howe tripled for Kia. Pitcher Deb Simmonds and her defence limited Kia to just one run.

Game 2

Corey's Restaurant-18 Hollister Kia-8

Corey's - Lauren Duffy (4-4) Shannon Oneill (4-4)

Kia - Jen Cadman (4-4) Amber Campbell (3-4)

Game Highlights - Kia were only able to field nine players but provided a tough opponent in a game that only went five complete. Corey's plated seven batting around in their last at bat.

Game 1

Indigo Lounge-14 Jays-8

Indigo - Kim Harrop (2-3) Jess Anseeuw (2-3)

Jays - Bobbi Hiscock (3-4) Nikki Shewan (3-3)

Game Highlights - Jays hung with Indigo until the sixth when Indigo broke up the tie game with a six run rally. Tamarah Schultz led off the rally with a triple.

Game 2

Indigo Lounge-13 Jays-10

Indigo - Tamarah Schultz (4-4) Tena Bueckert (3-4)

Jays - Deana Lamers (2-3) Shirley Moore (2-3)

Game Highlights - As in the opening game Indigo had to score runs late to put the game away against a game Jays squad. Tena Bueckert led the winners with a pair of triples and three runs scored.

Game 1

Service Master-6 Orange Crush-1

Service Master - Mona Desmarchais (3-3) Steph Erdelac (3-4)

Orange - Bobbi Anderson (3-4) Pam Brandon (2-3)

Game Highlights - Orange was able to keep the game low scoring despite playing with nine. Kayla Bond and Mona Desmarchais each scored three runs for Service Master.

Game 2

Service Master-9 Orange Crush-4

Service Master - Cheryl McDowell (3-4) Jodi Hodges (3-4)

Orange - Belinda Coyle (2-3) Nicole Harris (2-3)

Game Highlights - Service rallied for seven in the middle two innings en route to victory.

Ladies B

It will be the top two teams playing for the best of five B final between first place Farmers Daughters and second place Energy Productions. Farmers won two big games down the stretch against Energy but both teams will be entering the final hot as both swept their series.

Game 1

Farmers Daughters-19 Dean Masson Construction-4

Farmers - Anna Enns (4-4) Tina Friesen (4-4)

Dean Masson - Steph Miller (3-3) Jess Cotton (3-3)

Game Highlights - Everyone in Farmers line-up had at least two hits. Anna Enns drove in a run in all four plate appearances.

Game 2

Farmers Daughters-18 Dean Masson Construction-6

Farmers - Nettie Klassen (4-4) Sara Driedger (3-3) Anna Enns Hr

Dean Masson - Hillary Stoop (3-3) Steph Miller (3-3)

Game Highlights - Tina Friesen and Nettie Klassen each scored three runs for Farmers.

Game 1

Energy Productions-7 EMI Steelerz-2

Energy - Elisha Duyvestijin (4-4) Nicole Cuerier (3-4)

EMI - Jordan Coderre (3-4) Agatha Charette (3-4)

Game Highlights - Crystal Haegens had the walk off base hit for Energy in the seventh.

Game 2

Energy Productions-18 EMI Steelerz-2

Energy - Shanna Wellink (5-5) Nicole Cuerier (4-4)

EMI - Deanna Littler (2-3) Agatha Charette (2-3)

Game Highlights - Shanna Wellink, Elisha Duyvestijin and Nicole Cuerier each scored three runs for Energy.

Ladies C

Cleats swept their series with Pitch and will now face Ritchie's in the best of five C final.

Game 1

Cleats-4 Pitch 3

Cleats - Melissa Barnim (2-3) Heidi Hopper (2-3)

Pitch - Britt Sandham (2-3) Darby Vandaele (2-3)

Game Highlights - Steph McDonald played a steady game at shortstop for Cleats. Cleats won it in their last at bat.

 

Men's A

Maple View Variety pulled off the upset in the opening round knocking off the third place IC Waters in four games. Survivors and Gators who seem to meet quite regularly in the post season went to four games with Survivors who came out on top.

Maple View will now take on first place Robert Q Travel while Survivors will meet second place Haines Roofing.

Game 4

Survivors-22 Gators-8

Survivors - Martin Klassen (4-4) Pete Fehr (3-4) Pete Klassen Grand slam

Gators - Chris VanParys (3-4) Darren Swick (2-3) Aaron Laporte Hr

Game Highlights - Pete Klassen led the winners with a grand slam and a two run homer.

Men's B

Corey's Restaurant did it again, they swept a doubleheader on the last day of the regular season and did the same Friday night thus eliminating Hounds from the playoffs. They will now face GC Lounsbury in the semifinals. Ontario Laser Spartans will take on Kekambas in the other semi.

Hounds-16 Corey's Restaurant-11

Hounds - Barry Howick (3-3) 2 Hrs Jim McKillen (2-3) Scott Ball Hr

Corey's - Justin Wood (2-2) James Greenhill (2-3) Eric Vanwynsberghe Hr Chad Hill Hr

Game Highlights - Hounds took over the lead in the fourth. Barry Howick led the winners with two homers and a double.

Game 4

Corey's Restaurant-13 Hounds-3

Corey's - Eric Vanwynsberghe (4-4) Hr Brian Rocco (3-3) Michael Mesquita Hr Justin Clapdorp Hr

Hounds - Greg Hutchinson (2-2) Scott Ball (1-2)

Game Highlights - Hounds had a hard time keeping Corey's Eric Vanwynsberghe off the bases. He homered tripled, doubled twice and scored four runs.

Game 5

Corey's Restaurant-17 Hounds-10

Corey's - Derek Elliott (3-3) Justin Wood (3-4)

Hounds - Shane Bouck (3-4) Scott Ball (3-4) 2 Hrs

Game Highlights - Derek Ellliott, Craig Boucher and James Greenhill each scored three runs for Corey's.

Men's C

Rooks & Vets took their series 3-1 against Norox Basement Applications wrapping it up on Thursday night. Norox staved off elimination with a one run victory on Tuesday night. Rooks now go on to meet regular season champions Pelicans in one semi-final while Hit N Run and Ward's Automotive will finally begin their series as well.

Norox - Ryan Copping (4-4) Jess Legg (3-4)

Rooks - Ryan Blackman (2-2) Jim Long (3-4)

Game Highlights - Ryan Copping led the winners with three runs scored, Ryan Hambleton for Norox and Jim Long for Rooks made outstanding diving catches in the outfield.

Game 4

Rooks & Vets-23 Norox Basement Applications-18

Rooks - Denis Lenane (4-4) 2 Hrs Christian Crossett (4-4) Dallas Dalby 3 Hrs Bryan Granger 2 Hrs

Norox - Cam Curtis (4-4) Ryan Hambleton (4-5) Jess Legg Grand slam Steve Chambers Grand slam

Game Highlights - Dallas Dalby homered three times and drove in eight for Rooks.

Men's D

John Beere escaped with a one run decision over Falcons eliminating them in Game 4 of their series. John Beere will next face Diamond Dogs while Boston Pizza and Destroyers will also begin their semi-final.

John Beere-14 Falcons-13

John Beere - Kalvin Smith (4-4) Jesse Anderson (4-4)

Falcons - Willy Bueckert (4-4) John Wiebe (4-4)

Game Highlights - Falcons came within one of tying it in their last at bat but they had the tying run thrown out at the plate on a strong throw from Mark Vanderhaeghe. Jesse Anderson scored the eventual game winning run for John Beere in the seventh as he was plated by Chris White.
