The Men's playoffs commenced last Tuesday with the bottom four playing off in A and B while the fourth and fifth place teams face off in C and D.

The Ladies finished off their schedule off this week. Corey's Restaurant clinched the A regular season title while B was still up for grabs.

Is it coincidence that the answer to our Sammy's Fun Puzzle Contest answer was one of the Blue Jays top performers this past week? The answer to this Blue Jay player is one of three that play the same position of Devon Travis using the names of Devon McDonald and Travis Horvath was correctly answered by four correct entrants, the winning name drawn was Richard Reneboog!

This will be the last contest of this type for the season!

Ladies A

Corey's Restaurant clinched first place thus remaining unbeaten after defeating Indigo Lounge on Wednesday night.

Jays upset third place Service Master beating them by three in a game where they scored three late to pull out the win.

The only other action featured a valiant effort from a shorthanded Hollister Kia squad who ended up losing in a walkoff to Orange Crush.

Orange Crush 16, Hollister Kia 15

Orange - Rena Langrell (3-4), Shannon Schneckenburger (4-4)

Kia - Jen Cadman (5-5), Kate Dedrick (4-4)

Game Highlights - Jen Hillner plated the game's winning run with one out in the seventh. Candi Obar led the winners with a two run triple and two runs scored.

Corey's Restaurant 16, Indigo Lounge 11

Corey's - Lauren Duffy (4-4), Kim King (3-3), Nicole Brandon Hr (over Annandale 3)

Indigo - Jessica Anseeuw (3-4), Tamarah Schultz (3-4)

Game Highlights - Corey's went out to a quick 15-4 lead. Lauren Duffy doubled, tripled and drove in four and was a stalwart defensively at shortstop for Corey's.

Jays 10, Service Master 7

Jays - Melissa Hughes (4-4), Amy Beattie (3-3)

Service Master - Crystal Ball (3-3), Becky Abbott (2-3)

Game Highlights - The game was tied at seven after three complete. Melissa Hughes doubled in Mary Froese with the eventual game winning run in the sixth.

Ladies B

The only B action to report on was a seven run victory by one of the top teams, Energy Productions, over Dean Masson Construction.

Energy Productions 8, Dean Masson Construction 1

Energy - Bri Johnston (3-3), Jen Kichler (3-3)

Dean Masson - Hillary Stoop (2-2), Crystal Laforge (2-3)

Game Highlights - Energy put this one away with a six run second. Bri Johnston crossed twice in the game for the winners.

Men's A

Survivors beat their B cousins Ontario Laser Spartans handily in a game that drew more fans then normal for a regular season game. The ooh's and aah's were plentiful during this match.

Survivors leap frogged Gators into fourth and the two teams will meet in the opening round.

IC Waters will take on Maple View Variety in the other match-up. Robert Q Travel and Haines Roofing will have first round byes.

Survivors 26, Ontario Laser Spartans 4

Survivors - Martin Klassen (4-4) 2 Hrs, Johnny Klassen (4-4) 2 Hrs, Martin Epp Hr, Jake Klassen Hr

Spartans - Martin Klassen (2-2) Hr, Herman Enns (1-2), Dan Blatz Hr, Abe Krahn Hr

Game Highlights - Johnny Klassen homered twice and drove in six.

Men's B

Corey's Restaurant turned the standings upside down in B after they knocked off Kekambas and Hounds who were both vying for second spot in the division.

Corey's scored four in the seventh to edge out Kekambas who rallied for five in their half but came up one short.

Hounds upset A's Maple View Variety in their first game but were beaten by six in the second half of the doubleheader by Corey's.

That left Kekambas, Hounds and Ontario Laser Spartans with 11-12 records which meant it came down to runs for and against differential over their entire schedule!

Kekambas emerged as the best and finished second, Hounds grabbed third while Spartans placed fourth.

Kekambas and GC Lounsbury will have a bye while Hounds meet Corey's, and Spartans will take on Kirwin and Oatman.

Corey's Restaurant 19, Hounds 13

Corey's - Dave Mathews (4-4), Justin Clapdorp (4-4), Eric Vanwynsberghe Hr, Michael Mesquita Hr

Hounds - Scott Ball (3-4), Shane Bouck (3-3)

Game Highlights - Hounds plated seven early but Corey's kept picking away at the lead taking the lead with a four run fourth. Chad Hill cleared the bases with a triple and hit another triple in the sixth leading the winners with a pair of triples and a double.

Corey's Restaurant 17, Kekambas 16

Corey's - Chad Hill (4-4), Michael Mesquita (4-4) Hr, Eric Vanwynsberghe 3 Hrs

Kekambas - Kyle Hollister (4-4), Jason Davis (4-4)

Game Highlights - Eric Vanwynsberghe led Corey's with three homers and seven runs batted in.

Hounds 8, Maple View Variety 7

Hounds - Mike Bouck (2-3), Scott Ball (2-3) 2 Hrs, Barry Howick Hr

Maple View - John Epp (3-3), Nathan Klassen (3-4)

Game Highlights - Scott Ball's second home run of the game decided it for Hounds.

Men's C

The second spot in the division was still unclaimed entering the last week of regular season play.

Norox Basement Applications played a doubleheader against Hit N Run and Ward's Automotive with both still having a shot at second.

Ward's beat Norox in their first game and then needed Norox to defeat Hit N run to claim second. Norox gave it a good shot only losing to them by one giving Hit N run second on the strength of their season series record against Ward's.

Hit N Run and Ward's receive a first round bye along with Pelicans. Norox and Rooks & Vets will meet with winner playing Pelicans.

Hit N Run 23, Norox Basement Applications 22

Hit N Run - Dave Wolf (3-4), Jakie Enns (4-4) Hr, Diedrich Klassen Hr

Norox - Ryan Hambleton (6-6), Brent O'Brien (5-5)

Game Highlights - Jake Hildebrandt had the game winning RBI for Hit N Run in the seventh. Jakie Enns hit for the cycle.

Ward's Automotive 17, Norox Basement Applications 8

Ward's - Connor Smith (4-5), Trevor Hawley (4-5)

Norox - Cam Curtis (3-4), Ryan Copping (3-4)

Game Highlights - Nine of Ward's10 batters scored at least one run. Trevor Hawley scored three.

Men's D

Boston Pizza and Falcons rounded out their schedule with nothing at stake except bragging rights. Boston Pizza won easily by 13 amid a strong relief pitching effort from Jordan Bruckler.

Boston Pizza along with Destroyers and Diamond Dogs will have a first round bye while Falcons will take on John Beere with the winner facing top place Diamond Dogs.

Boston Pizza 29, Falcons 16

Boston Pizza - Keith Agnew (4-5), Craig Robb (5-6), Brandon Devos Hr

Falcons - Jake Wolf (5-5), Jake Andries (4-4)

Game Highlights - Brandon Devos was a double shy of hitting for the cycle and probably would have accomplished if it hadn't been for a third inning injury.
