With playoffs around the corner, teams are jockeying for position and stronger seeds.

Week 9

Division A Recap

Kinsmen Club 3 – Boston Pizza 2

Kinsmen Club continue to steamroll the division, defeating a chipper Boston Pizza squad with goals from captain and scoring co-leader Marijn Noorland (1), and Stephan de Groot (2). BP answered with strikes from Scott Dunbar and Nate Shearer.

Corey’s 2 – Investor’s Group 0

Corey’s continues to have Investors Group’s number, as a brace from captain Mike Mesquita proved the difference, running out 2-0 winners against a severely depleted side in blue.

First Step Travel 2 – Pettman Auctioneering 1

First Step Travel looks to be peaking at the right time—extending their unbeaten run to five games—as a Tim “The Big O” Ooman brace sealed the points for the Agents in Orange. Pettman kept things tight with a strike from former ladies leading scorer and now men’s co-leader Bailey “Always been a Man” Page (12). Travel’s ‘keeper and captain Brandon ‘The Fish Monger” Koppert was sensational, keeping a powerful Pettman Auctioneering offence out of the net.

Division B Recap

Courtland Vinyl Windows Ltd. 4 – Tillsonburg Lions Club 3

Courtland Vinyl Windows continued their march up the B Division table with goals from Chadwick P. Lofthouse (1), Matt “The Mallet” Malott (1) and Gerrit “Lactose Tolerant” Pelleboer (2). Lions Club and division Top Scorer Ivan Hernandez will be looking to get back to winning ways next week against a strong Just4Fun side.

Barely Legal 2 – DNS Controls 1

This game had it all: a soft goal, plenty of back and forth, and a missed PK, as Barely Legal snuck out a win in the dying moments, leaving DNS Controls still searching for their first win of the season. The game was even into the final minutes after Jeff White and Lee Janzen strikes, when Gord “The Mountain” Bailey fouled White just inside the Barely Legal box. Referee Andrew Sykes correctly pointed to the spot, shrugging off plenty of chatter and quibbles from the team in blue. DNS’ Jeff White fired the subsequent PK 37 feet over the bar, allowing Barely Legal to march down the field and win the game with a Mark Laidman goal.

Tillsonburg Glass 4 – Just4Fun 3

Tillsonburg Glass continued their dominance over the division, running out 4-3 winners in a tight and entertaining match. Hat tricks from Glass’ Paul Bosquet and Just4Fun’s Josh “Spread my Wings” Soares kept the match even until a Ted Barney slide sealed the points for the Champions. As the slide was not in the vicinity nor toward the ‘keeper, the action was therefore deemed as not being dangerous and the referee allowed the goal to stand. Just4Fun will admittedly feel much maligned as they were so close to nipping points off the division leaders after a strong performance.

Bobcat of Brantford 1 – ifourone 1

The final game of the night proved to be the most relaxed and enjoyable as Bobcat and ifourone—both without a full squad—played out a 1-1 draw. With only one lady, ifourone played short-handed for the match, as Sarah “The Worm Lady” MacNeill played the match’s entirety without a sub. Bobcat’s Greg Luksys kept the ifourone defense busy, while Jodi Butcher kept things tidy at the back. Sebastian ‘Mr. July” Chwalczynski opened the scoring early in the first half, then provided an unfortunate assist as a Jason Routley clearance bounced off the back of his head, with Ken “Sultenfuss” Butcher latching onto the free ball and firing laser into the net from outside the box.
