There was plenty of action and excitement on order Friday night as Kinsmen Club was defeated, and Bobcat of Brantford continued to prowl.

Week 5

Division A Recap

Boston Pizza 2, Corey’s Restaurant 2

There were plenty of bragging rights on the table in an exciting match involving two of Tillsonburg’s favourites. The new kid in town, Boston Pizza with their new flavours, and the wily veteran Corey’s, with their classic offerings. The match was big on flavour, as both eateries provided two courses each - BP through Scott Dunbar and Nate Shearer, and Corey’s through Joe Lopes and Mac Robinson - leaving spectators hungry for more.

First Step Travel 5, Investors Group 1

Investors Group was sent packing by an offensive resurgence from First Step Travel, as Tim Ooman joined the top scorers with a hat trick, with single efforts by Nick MacDonald and Zachary Winegarden. Jan Aarnoudse opened his account with Investors Group, who were ultimately unable to come up with a plan to stop l’oranje.

Pettman Auctioneering 2, Kinsmen Club 1

It was a battle of epic proportions in the headline match of Division A as Pettman Auctioneering ran out winners on the back of goals from Mark Edmonds and Rina Langrell. Two of the division’s top scorers were kept relatively quiet as only Chris Klyn could get on the board for the league leaders. The game was fought in the trenches of midfield, with former "ladies" top scorer Bailey Page being shown a yellow.

Division B Recap

Bobcat of Brantford 5, DNS Controls 0

Bobcat of Brantford growled - providing another dominant offensive display - showing why they may be the team to beat in Division B. Goals from Ken Butcher, Greg Luksys, the inexhaustible Paul Csayni and Neil “the drill” Puente, proved too much for the division newcomers. Bobcat are setting themselves up nicely for an epic match against last year’s Champs and still undefeated Tillsonburg Glass in a fortnight.

Courtland Vinyl Windows Ltd. 6, Just for Fun 5

Goals were the name of the game at field #4, as Courtland Vinyl Windows continued their march up the table, keeping Just for Fun on the outside looking in on the back of another hat trick from Gerrit “the Dairy King” Pelleboer, and single strikes from Murray “the Professor” Frink, and ladies Devon Tomasi and Sarah Zeyen. Just for Fun kept things exciting and close with a fantastic performance by Josh “spread my wings and” Soares, who contributed an amazing five goals.

Tillsonburg Glass 5, Lions Club 2

Tillsonburg Glass continued their title defense, as braces from Ana Jayne and Peter Rochus, and a poke from Paul Bosquet took the bite out of a Lion’s Club attack that hasn’t seen much joy in the hunt as of late. Two strikes from top scorer Ivan Hernandez maintained some pride for the club in blue. In two weeks, Tillsonburg Glass will put their title defense to the test against leaders Bobcat of Brantford, with only a goal difference of one separating the leaders.

Barely Legal 4, ifourone 4

There was plenty of excitement and back and forth in a barnburner in the sun at field #1, as Barely Legal came from behind in the final minutes to share the spoils against a clicking ifourone team. A hat trick from Jason “Welder’s Flash” Lampert, including a rocket into the far corner from well outside the box, and a strike from captain Chris Kelly, took ifourone within minutes of victory. Despite another fine display of ‘keeping by Jason Routley - and the woodwork - goals from Lee Janzen, Terri-Lee Potter, Mark Laidman, captain David Barnabi and strong defensive play from Gord “The Mountain” Bailey, meant Barely Legal was able to grab a point to stay in the top half of the table.
