OPP locate stolen vehicle east of Port Burwell, chase suspect on foot

On Monday, June 13, at approximately 11:25 a.m. Elgin County OPP responded to a call of a stolen vehicle from Norfolk County.

Elgin officers were able to locate the vehicle on Lakeshore Line in the Municipality of Bayham, east of Port Burwell.

The officers performed a 'rolling block' with one police cruiser in front of the suspect vehicle and one police cruiser behind the suspect vehicle. The suspect vehicle made minor contact with the lead police vehicle on the rear. Once all the vehicles came to a stop the male suspect fled on foot towards a wooded area. Officers briefly followed on foot, but then lost visual.

At this time officers from Elgin and Norfolk OPP set up containment and the canine unit was called to the scene. Officers soon after located the male suspect and continued a brief foot pursuit coming to an end in a wooded area.

The male suspect was taken to a nearby hospital as a precaution as he complained of a sore hand and foot. The suspect was cleared medically.

No officers were injured in the course of the arrest or 'rolling block.'

At this time Jorden Morin, 28, of Norfolk County is charged with: Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle contrary to section 249 (1)(a) of the criminal code; Driving while Disqualified contrary to section 259(4) of the criminal code; Flight while pursued by a Peace Officer contrary to section 249.1(1) of the criminal code; Possession of Property Obtained by crime over $5,000 contrary to section 355(a) of the criminal code; Theft of motor vehicle contrary to section 333.1 of the criminal code; Driving while ability impaired by drug contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the criminal code; and Driving while under suspension contrary to section 53(1) of the highway traffic act.

The accused was held for a bail hearing on June 14 in St. Thomas Criminal Court.
