The Tillsonburg Men's slo-pitch season got into full swing last week and the Ladies commenced this past Monday night.

Congratulations go out to Sean Miller who's name was drawn as he became the inagural winner in the Sammy's fun puzzle contest. He takes home a spiffy T-shirt and cap. I do realize that spelling wasn't exact for all those who pointed that out to me when submitting your answers but the answer was John A. MacDonald using the names Steph McDonald and John Nichols found within my column to solve the puzzle.

We had 27 correct entrants to draw from!

This week's Sammy's fun puzzle for all those TV buffs out there is: 'This actor portrays an eccentric character on the show The Big Bang Theory.

Slo-pitch Fun Fact - Did you know that some men's slopitch players used to play barefoot? Yup, Dale Avey, Dennis Carter and Jerry Vandaele to mention a few.

Men's A

Robert Q Travel and Gators were the only two teams to escape Week No. 1 unbeaten. Robert Q started off their season with an impressive win over last year's regular season champs Survivors. They came from behind to defeat Haines Roofing later in the week.

Gators beat Maple View Variety in a slugfest with Derek Craggs driving in 10 runs.

IC Waters was involved in a pair of low-scoring affairs beating Maple View after dropping their opener to Haines.

Maple View - Tim Pressey (2-3), Kevin Wagler (2-3)

Mike Shewan led off IC's five-run fith rally with a homer.

Maple View - Tim Pressey (3-4), Peter Epp (3-4), Ryan Miller 2 HRs, Abe Epp HR, Randy Miller 2 HRs John Epp HR, Matt Ungar HR

Gators put seven across in three of their first four at bats. Derek Craggs homered three times and drove in 10 for the winning side.

Both teams hit their limit of home runs. Bryan DeBlaire and Billy Wilson hit a pair of round trippers for the winner's.

Tyler Lamb's three-run fourth inning homer provided the margin of difference in Haines' win.

Robert Q came from behind plating four in their sixth to overtake Haines. Steve Derks and Charlie Crossett doubled in the rally.

Men's B

The Ontario Laser Spartans sit atop the division after victories over two short-handed teams, Kirwin and Oatman and Hounds.

Hounds held off a late charge from Kekambas in their opening match while GC Lounsbury also beat Kekambas sparked by Trevor Stuyt's four homer performance.

Kekambas - Kyle Smith (3-4), Brett Ronson (2-3)

Kekambas threw a scare into Hounds plating 11 in the seventh. Nick Barnim and Jim McKillen crossed three times for Hounds.

Ontario Laser Spartans 21,

Kirwin - Jeff White (4-5), Derek Kunderman (4-5), Marty Hawel HR

Spartans took advantage of an eight-man Kirwin squad in plating 21 runs.

GC Lounsbury 22,

Kekambas 14

GC - Trevor Stuyt (4-4) 4 HRs, Travis Nikin (4-4), Thom Puhr HR, Cheyne Sarafinchin HR

Kekambas - Evan Prouse (3-4), Steve Demeter (3-4), Kyle Hollister HR

Trevor Stuyt homered in four at-bats to lead the winners.

Ontario Laser Spartans 26,

Hounds 23

Ontario Laser - Corny Krahn (5-6), Martin Klassen (6-6)

Hounds - Mike Bouck (5-6), Barry Howick (6-6)

Spartans took advantage of a shorthanded Hounds team, Jake Friesen singled, doubled, tripled and drove in five for the winners.

Men's C

Ward's Automotive won twice coming from behind to outslug Pelicans in a game that produced 50 runs at the Kiwanis Homer Dome and they earlier had beaten Norox Basement Applications by five.

Pelicans won their season opener over Rooks & Vets. Hit N Run also collected two wins, one over the aforementioned Rooks & Vets and in an interlocking match with D's John Beere. Norox mercied Boston Pizza in an out of division match.

Abe Wolf was a double shy of hitting for the cycle for the winners.

Pelicans 17, Rooks & Vets 13

Pelicans - Andrew Kamenar (4-4), Mike Kamenar (4-4), Nick Lonsbary Grand Slam, Benson Howey HR

Rooks - Trevor Fleet (4-4), Bryan Granger (4-4)

Pelicans broke up a tie game with five in the fifth. Andrew Kamenar led the winners with four runs scored.

Ward's Automotive 11,

Norox Basement Applications 6

Ward's - Ryan Bruckler (3-3), Trevor Hawley (3-3)

Norox - Brady Herron (3-3), Cam Curtis (2-3)

Ward's plated seven third-inning runs in the win. Trevor Hawley, Chad Lamoure and Chad Vigar all scored two runs on the night.

John Beere - Kalvin Smith (2-2), James Elliott (3-3), Mark Vanderhaeghe HR

A big five-run sixth gave Hit N Run the win. Abe Klassen had a double in the rally.

Pelicans led by two entering the seventh, but Ward's offence erupted to score 12. Brett Parsons homered twice in their seventh-inning rally.

Men's D

Diamond Dogs were the top dogs in the division after the opening week. They defeated Destroyers and mercied the new Falcons squad.

Destroyers also mercied the Falcons while John Beere won a close one over Boston Pizza.

Mark Vanderhaeghe homered in consecutive at bats for John Beere.

Destroyers - Ross Russell (5-5) HR, Dave Lockstein (4-4), Kevin Alward HR

A good close game heading into the sixth, the Dogs plated seven. Brent Schooley had a two-run homer in the rally.

Falcons 5

Destroyers: Jesse Temple (4-4) HR, Kevin Alward (3-3) 2 HRs, Ross Russell HR, Mike Parsons HR

Falcons - Jake Wolf (2-2), Isaac Wall (2-2), John Wiebe HR

Kevin Alward led the winners with a pair of homers while John Wiebe hit the Falcons first ever home run.
