It’s here! Crocuses are blooming, trees are budding out, hyacinths are growing fast, the grass is greening up nicely and the birds are singing. Spring is here.

Well, we never really had much of a winter, especially compared to last year, but it’s a welcome sight to see spring-like changes in the landscape. Of course, it also signals a lot of work but it feels good at this time of year to get out on the land, dig in the dirt and watch nature do her thing.

And we will need to get out and do some hard work after this weekend. Easter is the designated chocolate champion of holidays. Valentine’s Day is close but there is no comparison to the eggs, bunnies, chicks, initials, ducks and an assortment of other chocolate confections. A heart filled with individual yummies just cannot compete.

I have sent my list. What? We do it at Christmas, don’t we? We write letters to Santa Claus so he knows what we want and I do the same at Easter. Have already asked The Bunny to eliminate chocolate from my Easter basket. Oh, don’t get me wrong, I love chocolate and that is the problem. If it’s in the house I eat it until it’s gone. Just one little piece. That was good. Another little piece won’t hurt. Must be time for another little piece. And before you know it the whole giant egg is gone.

We are trying to be healthier so I have asked for carrots. You would think the Easter Bunny would be able to handle that with no problem, right? Green and red peppers, cucumbers and grape tomatoes are also on the list along with the usual socks and underwear.

Pretty sure he will listen but he’s not the one I have worry about. Family always think they know you better than you know yourself so I am sure someone will “treat” me to some sort of irresistible sweet. I’ve asked them to not do it but I know they will anyway with the explanation that you can’t have Easter without chocolate. I pray they keep it to a minimum.

And then there’s the food. Easter challenges Christmas for the best and most food on the table. Who can resist turkey with all the trimmings or ham and scalloped potatoes? We are doing leg of lamb and pork tenderloin with some lasagna thrown in for good measure. I am sure there will also be lots of mashed potatoes and an assortment of vegetables. With any luck there won’t be any dessert. Well, except those chocolate Easter treats.

I hope everyone has a super holiday remembering to treat one another with tenderness, be forgiving and accepting. Remember if you eliminate all the anger, frustration and fear from your heart there will be so much room to allow in so much more joy and love.

Happy Easter everyone.
