Senior Centre Singers to herald in the Christmas season

The Tillsonburg Senior Centre Singers, about 50 in number now, herald in the 2015 Christmas season on Tuesday, Nov. 17th, at 7:30 p.m. at the Tillsonburg Senior Centre auditorium.
"We have been doing this now for over 20 years," said director Rachel Parker. "This is our first 'Mini' Christmas concert to be held in the Senior Centre Auditorium, not the large Lions Auditorium. The setting is very 'family' in nature and we shall all be closely connected mentally, spiritually and 'physically' (it's a much smaller area)."
Singers will sing some special 'SATB' numbers and the audience will be asked to sing along with the singers in a number of carols and seasonal songs.
"It should be a fun time for all and full of the true meaning of Christmas – love for all on earth – as we celebrate our Lord Jesus' birth."
Refreshments will follow after the concert. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the Senior Centre (519-688-2520). Get them soon as the number is limited due to the lack of space in the auditorium.
Musical pieces include the theme song, Let There Be Peace on Earth. A carol will be sung by the audience plus 14 other numbers including Joy to the World, Do You Hear What I Hear, An English Christmas, It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas, Silver Bells, Christmas is a Feeling, and When a Child is Born.
"Unfortunately Stephanie Parker will not be here to sing 'O Holy Night.' We shall all miss her."
Pianist for the evening is Carol DeDecker and Jack "The Wind Beneath My Wings" Parker (as Rachel always says) is the singers' 20-plus years manager.
The Senior Centre Singers had their first 'mini' concert in April 2015, and this year's Christmas concert will follow a similar format.
"Refreshments follow the concert thanks to Nancy and Monia in the Senior Centre office," said Parker. "Our thanks to them both and the Community Centre for their support. And thanks to our audience.
"Thanks to Lord above for giving us a chance to sing with family and friends and bring the message of 'faith, hope and charity' to all at this festive time of year, heralding our Lord's birth.
"How thankful we all are to live in our country of Canada and have the opportunity to think of helping Syrian refugees relocate in our great land. May God bless us all. As Mother Teresa said, 'We as individuals can do no great things, only small things with great love.'"
